As I stated 38 posts ago yesterday - or was it the day before (the past quickly gets blurred the last few weeks with posting intensity! ;)) - Midnight Silver remains my first choice, yet I have a couple of back up plans (probably b. Silver and c. Blue...). Yet at this point, I find the car design (on the outside ;)) so cool almost in all colors that this color is not the most important source of issue I'll have... Now if the total 14 cu. ft volume of cargo space, for front and rear (!), would be confirmed, that would really bother me more... that and 215+ miles of range showing up as 216-220...
Made my peace with the no HUD thing yet only because there are alternative and because I believe (secretly - don't tell anyone... :D) it may be added by late 2018 when I order... :rainbow::rainbow::rainbow:

To me the cargo space is not a big deal. My 2008 A4 trunk is not big at all... When I need more space I use the mini van. Like you I hope by the time we configure our lovely car (early 2019), many moore options would be available.

I agree, I found my 2007 A4 had plenty enough room to travel with four people in the car, as long as they weren't serious steamer-trunk packers. If the 3 trunk is close to that volume I'll be fine with it, and will consider the frunk a bonus. Frankly I find many of us get a little obsessed with the cargo business. I lived just fine with a Miata as my only car for 2 years. You just have to occasionally get a little more creative.
And if you really want to bring the kitchen sink we already know there's a roof rack option.

Yep, we can always put a ''big mac'' on the roof! he he he!:D It works quite well on top of the Odyssey but on the M3, should be another story though!

Oooh yeah, I certainly wouldn't want to go with the big square box, that would seriously murder range. But a nice long, low profile ski box might not be too bad.

I understand that roof racks and tow hitch racks are nice cargo options for many people. I'm not one of them. I simply want the Model ☰ to have vastly superior cargo capacity to ICE vehicles in the segment. Why? Not so much for me -- I travel light. Mostly for the sake of bragging rights, and the ability to demonstrate that an electric drivetrain allows for greater internal capacity for passengers and luggage.

FYI... Hyundai Ioniq Electric is quite a bit shorter than the Tesla Model ☰, has no frunk at all, and has vastly more than a 14 ft³ of cargo space. Given the shorter length of the Ioniq, I'd expect the liftback simply allows around 4 ft³ to 5 ft³ of more 'usable' or 'useful' cargo space, compared to the area over the fixed 'shelf' behind the seats in the Model ☰. Certainly not 11 ft³ to 13 ft³ more available volume.

a little smartie has a ton of storage compared to my trunk, or at least a better use of cargo space.
But even at just 5CF I have fit 120 servings of beer/wine and a couple bags of chips & dip in my trunk. how much more space does one really needed? ;) (so does 14CF mean roughly 360 servings?)

Knowing that you drive one of these I was just waiting for the "You wanna see creative packing?" story. I rented one years ago on a trip to San Francisco and quickly discovered that the only place I could fit my hard suitcase was the passenger seat. Was heartbroken to have to swap it out for a Sebring the next day as having to choose between luggage or my passenger was not an option. But the few hours I had it, thrashing it around SF recreating scenes from Bullitt, were great fun (it flies relatively well).

I think you just inspired me to create the FrunkFoam that you can insert into your frunk to contain and insulate a frunk full of ice and beverages! Perfect for your next BBQ. I think I need early access to a model 3 for development and testing...

I agree, I would be in a very bad position being forced to put something on the M3 roof! Never will happen! (hopefully);)

Apparently : The 2016 BMW 3 Series sedan has 13 cubic feet of trunk space,
Audi A4 2017 is also 13 cubic foot

Which means the Model 3 has less actual rear trunk space than BMW or Audi A4 (because the frunk doesnt help to carry a large object in the rear trunk).

In my case the only time I need a large trunk is rare and its when I get large boxes at IKEA, flatscreen TV, or some stuff from a hardware store, If the seats can easily fold flat and there's no choke point narrowing the width between the trunk and the folded back seat I might be ok.

My Volt only specs out at 10.6 ft³ of cargo space, so 14 ft³ will be a luxury! :D
