Have to share this coincidental yet so totally in topic anecdote that happened to me here in Shanghai tonight, which I am about to leave tomorrow for my last leg of this AP trip in Tokyo...

So, I am waking a short distance back to the hotel after dinner through a small mall and my attention is drawn to this store with two cars, one of which looks like a slightly redesigned (yet now somewhat antiquated) old (i.e. previous model) BMW X1... The store is still open (it's 8:40 pm... would not happen in Europe... ;)) so... my Thai colleague and I walk it to check it out... we interrogate the young lady 'manning' (no pun intended...) the store, who through her broken English yet very kindly tries to explain it is a Zinoro 1E... actually a fully electric (!) battery operated (24 kWh... 0-60 miles in 5.5 sec., 85 mile range - no reference to norm), first vehicle of a new brand by the local BMW JV (BMW Brilliance), which per the glossy 30 page brochure, full of references to preserving clean cities in the future, 'modern day Garden of Eden'...(!), eco-living meaning 'nice & quiet', etc... a new brand therefore which ( here you need to hold me 'cause I'm about to levitate...;)) 'is a prime example of maturing BEV technology'... Wow!!

By then, not discouraged by the relatively low ambition specs (ok it's a city car...) nor the dated looks, I dare to ask the recently arrived more senior lady rep, somewhat more comfortable with English, 'how much does it cost...?' She responds 'you cannot buy it, Sir, you can only rent it...' Observing my dismay :) she points to the 2nd car, who she presents as a 'concept' (much slicker, modern design with completely tinted glass meaning the interior remains invisible... that cannot be opened!) which is truly what they are gearing up to sell... I imagine she is going to tell me it will have a min. 60 kWh battery, will be launched early 2017, etc...:rolleyes:... when she wakes me up from my reverie and announces proudly that it will be hybrid (PHEV) which is all they plan to sell for now... amazing...
And I thought, with the 30 page brochure in my hand, promoting the myriad of benefits of BEVs in a symphony of poetic marketing, that I had just been the fortunate witness of a future giant of the EV world?!

Oh well, maybe by next trip... :);)

Yes it is. BTW, isn't a Bavarian Twist a breakfast pastry?

@Badback , maybe... yet if it is, that is definitively not what Google points to... :p:p:p

In any case, my reference, as I trust you knew, had to do with the BMW genes in this 'Zenoro-1E'... hence neither with pastry or knitting stitches...! :D
