Back in January 2017 Elon asserted 'Let’s keep our Model 3 powder dry on announcements'

Of course a few announcements (mostly from tweets) have come out since then, some exciting and some not so much (starts with a NO and ends in UD).

What grams of powder might Elon be holding in reserve for July 28th? I'm not talking about the confirmed battery pack sizes or EPA rated range or 0-60 times. Those are expected, roughly known quantities.

Do you think something currently unknown and unexpected remains for the big day next week? Or is the scope of the final reveal already defined?

Or will the final and full definition of everything about the car and its release be satisfying enough for you? Enough for the buyers? Enough for investors?

Or is there an "oh, and one more thing..." in the mix? What might that be?

Unfortunately, I don't think he has anything up his sleeves that would "wow" us, most of the stuff is pretty known, IMHO. I will not hold my breath while watching the Event.

Great post, I've wondered the same things!
My thoughts (someone might find them amusing) are:

The physical and performance specs will be on the better end of the scale that we are all expecting i.e: It truly does only weigh 80% of the S, and the base ~60 battery has a range that beats the Bolt, the 0-60 times of the first production units are substantially better than the base battery of 5.6s, and the range on the ~75 battery is 300 miles.

I really see Elon and Tesla taking a lot of pride in this new vehicle and wanting to use the model 3 success and high ratings and reviews as a basis for future vehicle projects. "We hit a Grand Slam with the execution of the model 3, that is exactly what we will do with ______."

I don't really think they will have any new ground breaking features that we don't already know about (like the single screen for everything) but I do think they will wow us with the seamless GUI and how the car and driver become one. It will be such an easy and intuitive transition that after driving the model 3 for a while when we have to hop back into an ICE we are reminded of how some processes are cumbersome and almost unsafe or unnecessary.

I think the "...oh and one more thing..." will be something really neat that all of us reservation holder Tesla nerds will be high-fiving over, but at the same time something that is virtually free and doesn't cost Tesla more than some time spent by a couple of interns. My thought, which I would love, would be a video stored in my model 3 of it going through the production line. How cool would something like that be?
    We can dream right?
Just think, in a year or two most of us will be participating in this forum in our model 3s while parked at our homes!

I'm not expecting to be shocked next week.

Just some details about when I can place my order is really all I need.

Tesla doesn't really do "one more thing". The only thing we didn't know about the Model X was the HEPA filter thing. Everything else was known other than final pricing and options mix.

Model 3 won't be really any different. There just waiting on final specs, options and pricing.

The best part with a Tesla is discovering all the really cool small details they don't talk about on stage, little touches in the interior and such. They seem to prefer people discover those on their own and not highlight them. To me it shows a focus on paying attention to the small stuff but worrying more about the big picture publicly.

Also by not divulging every single detail they keep fan excitement level up, fueling bloggers, vloggers, and forums with neat little things to keep talking about, in effect keeping their momentum and energy up while spending almost nothing on advertising. Brilliant!

My best bet is ... (no, not the HUD... :D) a much better range than expected for the base battery.

    250+ wouldn't sound bad, would it? :)

Well the Bolt does 238 without problems in California (even a bit more) and I really can't see any problem beating this with a much more aerodynamic Model 3.

60 kwh Model S did what? 210? Then it's just logical that a smaller car that probably weighs less and is more aerodynamic should get more than 5+ miles extra because of this. I do expect at least 230 for base model

The EPA test cycle doesn't include a whole lot of high speed driving. So while I expect a Model 3's real-world highway mileage to be much, much better than a Bolt, I'm not expecting the EPA values to be better.

I've also seen a couple adamant people on TMC and Reddit sure that only one (75) battery will be released and there will not be a small battery option released - so in their logic, the 60kWh at 215 was eliminated and moved right up to everyone getting the 75kWh with near 300 miles.
personally, I think that is out there, but that certainly would qualify in the dry powder game.

faith in EM's pride, yeah. He has proven it's strong ;)

ETA: personally, I was ok 15 months ago when he said 215+ miles and still am.

In the 'old' days, I would have rated this idea a big :rainbow:! Today, I am left with the option to type that, like you, I view it as truly out there, like weed-like out there... :D

So, I'm guessing that we'll have to await the "formal release" to finally get some good, high-quality/HD, photos of the new Mod3? I'm tired of looking at only iPhone "spycam" photos of pre-release models. (I need some good quality Windows wallpaper!)

    One week Robert!

ETA; well, unless Tesla posts hi-res images then we will still be stuck with cameraphone pix, but at least in more places than people have had access to (trunk, frunk, UI)

We hardly know everything... all we know are a few tiny details, and what we can see from pictures. All the big major points are still unknown:
-pricing of all options (AWD, battery sizes, autopilot, performance are some big ones)
    -mileage ranges
-performance specs (I am prepared for these to be much better than announced last year)

They may not announce many smaller details at the event, but I'm sure there will be plenty more to be discovered.

Also, there will be more features and improvements added over time through software. Look at the Model S now vs just a few years ago. There's a good chance that the "one more thing" will be announced in months (say, during the Semi announcement) and activated later!
