Due to the long queue, many current Model 3 reservation holders may not receive the full federal income tax credit.

This afternoon I asked the three people who represent me in Congress to increase the number of electric cars per manufacturer eligible for the tax credits.

You may want to do the same.

EDIT: Please see my improved idea in post #3.

I think that's going to be a tough sell.

The other manufacturers are going to see this as a window of opportunity where their EV offerings will have a price advantage against Teslas. So you'll get a lot of push-back from GM & Ford to leave the limit in place.

But also, Tesla has planned for the Model 3 be competitive even without the federal incentive. So I don't see Tesla making any kind of push for this either.

Perhaps it would be wiser to ask Congress to legislate that a single number of tax credits be spread across all manufacturers. That would force each manufacturer to speed up the production of electric cars so that a greater number of their own customers will receive the tax credits. The credits would then run out at the same time for the buyers from all manufacturers.

Meanwhile I'm terrified that Trump's congress will axe the tax credits before I have a chance to use them.
Even though this is the one way to actually drive cars actually powered on their precious "clean" coal.
But I agree, we need all the pressure we can apply to get our "representatives" to realize encouraging EVs and infrastructure would truly benefit our economy.

Again, GM and Ford won't allow that, as it would definitely benefit Tesla more than any other manufacturer.
Nope. The credit will soon be the only way GM and Ford will be able to compete against the Tesla Model 3 for the next couple of years.

Outside of consumer tax credits Elon has made it very clear that CARB ZEV credits for manufacturers put them at a competitive disadvantage. Not relevant to this discussion however.

How's Nissan and Toyota sitting with their tax credits? Surely they must be close or exceeded them by now with Leaf and Prius sales no?

I am terrified of even directing Congress' attention to the subject. Letting sleeping Yog-Sothoths lie, and all that.

    Thank you kindly.
