    It's pretty lonely in here.

Manawatu, New Zealand reporting. I reserved my Model 3 as a 'spur of the moment thing' on the day of reveal. A couple months later and I'm now wondering if I was just kidding myself.

This aside, I'm very interested in Tesla's roll out in NZ as there is essentially nothing here yet. In the meantime i've been busy selling all my stuff (and my neighbours stuff) to cover the 'NZ Price Factor'.

Thinking i've got at least two years, (possibly three) to save before Tesla asks to see more money. A clear advantage in going last is we will be able to get solid reviews as to the as to be best way to configure this thing as our North American friends take the leap first.

Well done for breaking the ice.

I agree it will be beneficial having the left-hand-drive buyers to sort any worms out of the design. And here's hoping our currencies bounce back some against the $US while we're waiting too.

I had to look up Feilding, but now realise in September 2017 we'll be rolling through there at some time between the bubbling mud and getting the motorhome packed onboard the interislander.

Whats the deal with your Luxury Car Tax over the ditch? That must be a dream killer situation for some, especially if something over the threshold attracts a 33% hit?

I had to google that too but you are correct. It's buried in the price so I guess we don't see it split out. From memory the import duties used to be far higher too - death and taxes, right?

I am trying to guess what the 'NZ Price Factor' may be.

      Using USD...

I think the base $35k price will become $48.6k in New Zealand.
My reasoning is that Tesla will match the BMW 320i xDrive Sedan price of $48.6k ($72k NZD).
The New Zealand tax is simply 15% GST (or $5k). That leaves shipping and markup at $8k.

I would like to be wrong...

Yeah, it's really a sit back and wait situation. Hopefully the currency comes to the party and does a lot of the work for us.

My hope is to hit tier two and get the dual motor/awd. However with the likely hood quite high that the base model will sit $60-70k as t3sla3 said it'll take some hardcore financial discipline from my end to crack into that.
It's a good goal nonetheless....Taking the base model and installing a solar system and power wall in my house with the difference may also be a smart play.

Obvious upgrades for me are Bigger battery And unlocking Super charging also if I can.

Anything else that may be pay to unlock eg autopilot/autonomy I will put on the back burner if necessary.

Over on TeslaMotors forum I heard that Tesla has an 'equal pricing' policy. They try to sell for the factory price plus costs into each country. That would be good news.
So the NZ landed price for the base model could be as low $43k instead of my original guess of $48.6k (all USD incl. GST)
At that price the AWD extended range options are back on the shopping list. Also a CHAdeMO adapter so I can use the charge_net_nz network.

Does the USD$35k that's frequently quoted for the base price include US taxes and other on road costs?

$35k is prior to any tax, delivery or other local fees. Tesla also will update the foreign prices occasionally to coordinate with the exchange rates.
