I am just curious if you have been invited to configure yet. I am assuming no. If the sense is that those cars will begin to be delivered in late October, I wonder when the configurator will open. Of course given that all first production cars are essentially identical outside exterior color and wheels it still could be a few more weeks.

    I’m getting very anxious here...

I just spoke to a Tesla representative regarding my reservation. I'm an East coast owner with a Nov - Jan delivery estimate. I was told by the representative that I should receive a configuration email 1 to 2 months prior to the delivery date. He specifically stated that more details will be given once the configuration email is sent. I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I was just contacting them because I was curious. I hope to receive my configuration email by the end of this month or the beginning of October.

The Tesla representative at my local store said the same (about the 1-2 month window prior to delivery). I'm guessing that's the word they're giving to all their reps.

Honestly I don’t think they know at all. I was at Tesla in NYC on vacation on Saturday and they were surprised that I haven’t been invited yet.

It may very well be one of those things where no one knows until one day we get an email asking us to configure.

I'd surmise that if you have not been called to configure a month from now... maybe they really meant Oct-Dec 2018... :D

Why are you picking it up in Fremont if you don't mind me asking?

I assume it gets me an earlier delivery.

That would be a fun little one way flight/road trip home. I have heard that the destination fee of ~$850 is not removable even if you pick it up at the factory, just an FYI.

I also have Oct-Dec 2017 for 1st production. No invite yet. I didn't select first production on my estimate page so IDK if that makes any difference.

Im in Ohio and originally had Oct-Dec 2017 for first production and a week or so later it changed to Nov 17- Jan 18 and Jan-Mar 18 standard battery. I stood in line the morning of March 31 2016 at our local Tesla Store. Idk if it will end up making any difference in what you select, probably not.

Yeah, except my wife and three young kids now want to come. Could be an amazing trip, or absolute hell...Tesla confirmed that the fee remains wherever you have the car delivered. Check your conversations, I sent you a message.

Existing owner, California location, Oct - Dec delivery date estimate for first production. Haven't heard anything yet, but I'm hoping that an email will be coming soon... :)

@danzgator, are you aware of the sales tax implications of picking up in Fremont?

As I understand it, when you buy a new car out of state, they give you a temp plate and a receipt. When you bring your paperwork to your local DMV to register it, you pay the taxes of the state you live in. I think that's how it works for NY residents. There are still several states where Tesla is not allowed to sell directly to customers.

I think so. I picked up my MS in Houston, so I had a similar issue there. My understanding is that state the vehicle is sold in collects that state's sales tax. The seller-state transfers the sales tax to your home state where you register the car. If your home sales tax is more, you pay the difference to your home state. If your home state sales tax is less, the selling state keeps the excess and you lose it. I think in my case, I'd lose something like 1.5% to CA, if I remember correctly.

I'm not claiming to be a tax expert, so don't take that to the bank. That's just my understanding and experience.

    I suspect the fun factor.

    I wouldn’t make that assumption.

The delivery fee is $1,000 but you’re right it doesn’t vary by location in the US.

That’s an interesting one. My gut feeling is you get the invite regardless of your selection as they say it’s just a survey and has no impact on your spot.

Are you a current owner? The Nov-Jan estimate seems to be for non-owner US early line waiters.

I don’t think it’s exactly this. If for example tax in California is 9% and 6% where I live then I pay 9% tax. 3% to California and 6% to Florida. Definitely not a tax expert but it’s something along those lines.

I bought my used MS last year from CA and live in TN. The dealer did not collect sales tax. I had to pay it in TN before I could get permanent plates.

That sounds like what I expect. Did you buy the used MS from Tesla or a different dealer?

The biggest downside I can see from this is that you can't finance the taxes when you buy the car because you would be paying the taxes to the DMV at the time of registration.

It's definitely closer to mine than yours. I didn't, and would have never paid double taxation to Texas/Florida.
