    Good day,

I expect (hope?) to take delivery of my M3 by Q2-18. But I'm not holding my breath.

Being in car-choked and traffic-nightmare SoCal I'm leaning heavily on not getting EAP when I am contacted to configure. The reason being is I don't drive a whole lot of long distances but I do love to drive. I know that you will enlighten me to the fact that is the exact reason for getting EAP. And my very good friend, who I was lucky enough to accompany to Fremont to take delivery of her MS 100D,with EAP, loves hers. But I will have the option to activate it later (though at a premium, I know).

What if I wanted to activate it for a test drive? Since we all know that Tesla can "turn on" EAP from wherever they turn it on (Fremont? Hawthorne?) they would, I assume, have the ability to turn it off. So, what if I wanted to activate it for a while, just to see what I've been missing. Say, for thirty days? Of course I would expect to pay for the privilege. Then at the twenty-nine day mark (or earlier, with a query) I might be asked if I'd like to retain EAP completely.

It seems to me that this would be an excellent way for an owner to see just how much fun, usefulness, stress-reducing, etc (or not) the feature is. And Tesla could potentially reap a revenue stream they otherwise would not have.

To carry this to an extreme, perhaps entertain the idea of EAP as a subscription? I know this is even more far-fetched as it would certainly increase the number of employees and resources to handle this idea. But what if a driver wanted to take a trip for a fair amount of distance and didn't have EAP activated on purchase? They could do so for, again, say, thirty days. The trip would probably be for a shorter period but thirty days would be the minimum. They could do this again down the road (no pun intended). And maybe again. Tesla could set this up as ultimately being way more worth it to purchase than to "rent". I'm just spitballing here.

If this idea has been brought up before my apologies.

    Cheers,

I don't think Tesla does this, but I agree it's an excellent idea. Since the expense of the hardware is already on the car there is zero downside to having a trial period.

I believe on the S and X there is a trial period offered.

IMO this is more of a reason for EAP than long distance travel. I sit in an hour+ of traffic both coming and going to work (averaging 15mph) and can not wait to be able to turn it on!

Imagine being able to do this in your stop-and-go traffic:

I remember that video. Won't work anymore since his hands weren't on the wheel. It would eventually give him back control.

    sucs living in vancouver.
where I am 140mph is truly possible, but my reactions are too slow for it.
I'd see the battery power go from 310 to 280 in about 3 miles and a flashing
screen in big red letters-slow the F down! (it would be funny if tesla did this and put in
a sound like cop to make you slow down).
I'm a pretty chill driver but like 70-73 on the highway.
    sorry you're stuck at 15mph.

I agree they should offer some test period, they probably would get many more people to realize how useful it is in your day to day commute.
Of course reducing the price would help a lot too!

Better yet (for Tesla) make it a negative option that you can cancel after x days trial period.

    Sorry thinking like a shareholder

Tesla offered EAP as a 30 day trial for those that didn't order it upfront. I expect them to do similar things for the 3. As far as I know you only got one trial period and you can't subscribe (on for a while then off for a while).

I'm pretty sure it was back in AP1 days, but Tesla did offer a free trial to everyone for a short period. Never heard how successful it was to get people to bite on buying it.

There were one-time 30-day trials of EAP for those that hadn't purchased it. Those are probably still going on by request. I doubt they'd do it as a subscription that you can turn on/off but I wouldn't be surprised if they someday offered some of these as small fee recurring subscriptions as it would make the feature easier to get into and give them recurring revenue for an extended period.
