I wonder why Elon said "a few years". Why not bring the Model Y out early or mid 2019? We can already tell Model 3 will sell really well. Model Y will likely do even better. The technology is ready now (battery has enough range and cost is acceptable)

Because there's a lot of Model 3 to produce well into 2019 and the capacity is simply not going to be there. Agree 'a few years' is vague (not this was said in March i.e. 5 months ago) yet don't expect a commercialization before end 2019, IMHO...

I hope it's a more traditional rear half styling than the model x....

Jaguars I pace is set to scramble the electric cuv market as it releases as the most desirable ev cuv to hit the market.

I like the Model X styling, but I don't like those wing doors and the price. I already sent a message via twitter to Elon that I hope the Model Y will not have the wing doors. Jaguars are not for me, I want a cheap crossover with 300 miles of range. The Model Y will be perfect in size for me. After the Model Y I hope Tesla does a minivan (perhaps after the truck he wants to do).

For all of us really....I'd imagine since the jaguar f pace starts in the low forties and escalates quickly....we will see and it's just a guess on my part...that the ipace will follow suit in pricing...

43 to 100 sounds about right for the. Sporting cuv market aka Porsche Macan, jaguar f pace upcoming model y fro. Tesla give or take a few grand on base msrp...

It'll be close to 40 with standard awd? Sounds about right considering the model 3 starts at 35 and then as Musk said..less than 5 grand for awd...

Three or five grand extra from jaguar is possible for the base msrp..

Again just a guess but the jaguar concept I saw sure looked sweet.

It's obvious Tesla is trying to anti-sell the model 3. In my case if Tesla showed the model Y and a timeline for it,I would bail on the 3 and wait for the Y.

JB, as I reported before, the i-Pace has been quoted to me at ~€80-85k by a Jaguar representative at the Belgian reveal last May.

Anything about US$55-60k would truly surprise me... Am obviously less skeptical about the 100 grand high end of your estimate... ;)

Watts, anti-selling Model 3 by trying to appeal to the most impatient (and well-off! ;)) reservation holders & touting the merits of the S which is available now can make sense.

Anti-selling the 3 with the Y which no one has seen yet and which is at least 2 years from production launch is somewhat less intuitive... :D

Agree, shortly after the Y is officially announced and reservations begin for it, I expect the anti selling team will move its focus to it. “You can order a Model 3 and have it delivered in x months, or wait 2 years for the Y...”

Hopefully they have learned their lesson:
Don't announce a product until you are very close to selling it.
