That was the subject for an email that I received about a half an hour ago.

My heart raced. I thought that was it and rushed to open it ready to configure and lock in!

Unfortunately this is what the email said:

The email was accompanied by this info graphic.

    IMG_1973.PNG

So a few thoughts come to mind:
    1. Don't insult my intelligence. I know my positioning from the delivery estimator on Model 3 and I know I am safe and secure within the $7,500 US federal tax credit zone with a 2-5 month buffer.
    2. Again don't insult my intelligence. While good deals yes. Both cars with MSRP at ~$105k being offered at $85-$89k. Don't tell me with attractive financing it's close because it's not close at all. How far away is it? Basically a second car payment on a modestly priced car. $1,434/month for 60 months when my Model 3 figures to be in the $870/month range.
I know what they're doing and I get it, but it's frustrating.

I've waited 16.5 months for my Model 3 since putting down a reservation and I'm not about to jump ship now for an insane (for my budget) impulse buy because I couldn't wait those last few months.

Sales specialists at Tesla get bonuses for selling inventory. They're just actively fishing for people who don't want to wait.

    Sell what you have

True. But the allure of Tesla is not having to deal with pushy salespeople.

That is a steep discount on a model S for it only having 1000km. I'd not go for it either but holy.

I replied and she emailed me back and said you'll probably get your Model 3 before the showroom has one.

    On to the next :)

Well, it's nice to know they take 15-20 grand off a demo car. When I visited the showroom a few weeks ago, they were trying to convince me that was the way to go, as it still qualifies for tax credits and "your Model 3 won't come in time." Which is partly why I set up the S test drive. Of course I remembered a day later that any store or loaner cars will be loaded and super expensive.
But it boggles me that they think 85 grand is the same as 50 grand M3. They are too used to selling to rich folks.

Totally agree. They seem to have the "you can find the money somewhere" mentality, which doesn't work for us regular folks so well...

I don't blame them for trying. The 3 is getting so much good publicity that selling the S/X may be a bit challenging for the next year, or at-least until they can do a serious refresh/repositioning of those models to differentiate them.

Like I said, I get it.

At the same time it's an insult to say a $1,430 monthly car payment (before tax) is anything close to an $870 monthly car payment (after tax).

In fact my wife's car payment is $530/month.

My Model 3 and her car today is $1,400/month... cheaper than the Model S still.

This is what I was quoted in $CAD for a 75D loan with my generous downpayment (including fronting the Ontario EVIP rebate). Current loan rates are actually 1.99% and not the 2.49% listed here. If the HST goes away in the new year imagine what the monthly payment would be ;)

Here's a snip from the email I received this afternoon...

As you’ve likely heard, we’ve begun production of Model 3! The monthly payment on the new long range Model 3 would be in the $750 - 900/month range, depending on options.

Did you realize that we currently have Model S in our inventory with lease payments below $800 a month, or loan payments as low as $955 with 0.99% APR financing.

Please give me a ring to discuss taking our larger, quicker, better-equipped, more powerful flagship Model S home sooner!

    Kind Regards,

    Tom Duggan | Owner Advisor

I guess it's the final push. They know we're going to be invited any day now to configure and then we're gone.

They are in a small version of The Valley of Death: caught between needing to sell what they have while waiting for a groundbreaking car coming soon that they can't make enough of yet.

The stock rose this week because they managed to paint a rosy picture during the Q2 earnings call of Model S and X demand going up a bit since the delivery event, but the reality is going to be at least one more tough "in between" quarter.

If you dig Elon-related memes, they are stuck Waiting for Godot...

If you want/require AWD they aren't all wrong in saying you'll miss some of the tax credit. That's also a year out on the wait, so still a decent chunk of time. If you are happy without it, then the wait isn't that much longer to get first run.

You could imply that they should know my preferred spec (not AWD) because I saved my preference via the MyTesla page.

    Pretty cool!

Too bad it's 170 miles away.

I see all of these cars on the road daily though anyway. Well all but the Roadster. It's less common than a Lamborghini down here.
