Hi folks, i'd like to introduce you to a new site we've created to help with EV Road Trip Planning:

https://evtripping.com

We've been working with Gene from Teslarati and a few others on the early features and ideas for the site and we're ready to slowly open it up to more users. We'd love to have some of you start using the site and provide any feedback if you have time. Some of our early users were from Europe and we quickly added internationalization of the units and other things to support their needs.

Some of the features as a teaser:
  • Smart routing through chargers
  • User waypoints
  • Supercharger and CHAdeMO information/locations
  • Quickly find nearby chargers and details
  • Saved routes
  • Route details printing and export
  • Route metrics
  • Charge times
  • Saved routes between devices
  • Tesla browser and tablet friendly
  • Tesla log data collection and metrics (optional)
Right now it only does routing for Teslas but the plan is to add support for other EVs that can do road trips when we can get more information on the other car types.

The charging speeds, range, etc for the Model ☰ are still speculation until we all get more data on actual battery size, efficiencies etc.

@teslaliving - i looked around the site yesterday but didn't register since my 'mytesla' page does not yet have an active vehicle on it. could you confirm if there is any poking around benefits to those of us that do not yet have a Tesla?
or to just be registered now and ready for when cars are delivered...

For future Model ☰ owners i'd think it could be useful to see if/how you can do certain trips in the future. For instance from Boston to Pittsburgh was something that was miserably painful until recently. While you can see these things on your own by looking at maps on various sites its different to see the route, charge times etc.

As an example my 20 hour drive to FL took 26 hours thanks to the 12 chargers I needed on the way down.

Also the answers change based on weather too. And the list of chargers updates over time etc.

Anyway its there if/when you need it.

ok - thanks, I was about to register to play with it, but read further and didn't know if not having a car to link to would provide any of the site's features.

Only about 10% link their car to the site. Thats a personal choice. The site is mostly there to promote and help EV road trips. The Tesla connectivity is a bonus.

Just to follow up on this part. We have 163 connected right now. It's definitely not required for routing but people are finding the tire rotation, annual service and daily plug in checks helpful.

For those EU users that saw odd battery degradation reported numbers, it was an issue with the way Tesla reports the rated range numbers. For EU vehicles its using NEDC rated range. EVTripping was using the EPA range as a base to calculate battery degradation. Starting tomorrow it will properly use NEDC rated range for EU vehicles.

Are you planning to include Ontario's Level 3 charging network? Otherwise all we have is a few SuperChargers.
We plan on adding all DC fast chargers. Currently on the list are Superchargers, CHAdeMO and CCS. Is that leaving out a type of DC fast chargers used in Canada?

I believe that Ontario DC fast chargers will use CHAdeMO (Trev: can you confirm?) Right now, your web site doesn't list any fast chargers (except SuperChargers) within 200 miles of Ottawa in Ontario.

@Rick59 - did you add the checkmark on CHAdeMO ? I think the site defaults to just having the Tesla Superchargers checked (at least thats what mine was set at when I logged in)...

@Rick59 the Ontario Fast DC chargers have both CHAdeMO and CCS plugs.

We have a map of Ontario chargers linked on this site on the front page (second link down)

Thanks. I'm hoping there will be a way to trip plan using all available Fast chargers in Ontario.
The map on this site is great. My son-in-law reports that the one in Port Elgin is not there yet.
What does the Tesla trip planner use? Just SuperChargers and Destination Chargers?

EVTripping uses Openchargemap.org to get the list of CHAdeMO chargers in an area. Sometimes the owners haven't reported them to Openchargemap (no idea why because it's free).

Openchargemap is a great resource, but a lot stronger in the EU than in NA. As for the Canadian ones, I'm not sure how good that is. I believe that Opencharge has taken imports of data from publicly available US sources, not sure what it does for Canada.

So, we're back to the same problem: how to plan a trip in Ontario using Level 3 chargers using the onboard screen in the Model? Using the browser to find the Ontario Level 3 charging network? Unfortunately the Tesla trip planner won't be able to help you unless you stick to Superchargers or Destination chargers.
