    I was browsing through the many fun videos in Steve Jurvetson's channel and came across this gem:



    I love prototype dashboard, unfinished screen GUI, etc. But even better is that the chauffeur is Elon himself!

      Ok folks. I need help and prayers. I took my wife to test drive a Model S today in Ottawa. I found it fun to drive but a bit tight getting in and out. She was so-so with the car but she LOVED the Model X. We are retired, 70+ seniors who don't need an X to get around. It's about $35,000 more than my projected cost of the Model 3 ( long range, AWD, red, auto pilot, interior upgrade and 19" wheels 'cause I hate the UWCs). I have always lived by the principle of Happy Wife, Happy Life (married 46 years next week so I guess it works).
      So now what? Tesla rep thinks Montreal will get a Model 3 by January or so; that test drive will probably decide but I expect that it won't feel any bigger than the S.
      I think I'm screwed, but in a nice way.
      Suggestions?

        @Rick59, if I didn't have to put two kids through college starting next year, I'd get us a Model X. :)

        Based on videos I've seen, it's a bit more difficult to get in and out of the Model 3. I don't think the Canadians are getting Model 3's until late 2018.

          As we came out of the grocery store, we caught site of a red one pulling in. We were well received by a friendly couple, Mercedes and Doug who kindly gave us a tour. While his wife did the groceries, Doug gave us a quick spin around town. Flo loved everything about the car and I was impressed about the acceleration of course and the alcantera interior finish.

          Doug had previously owned a roadster and took delivery of his second Model S three months ago.

            Can$ 35k only? For a new X?!? If that is the case & you can afford it (probably a key criteria, to @garsh 's point about other priorities... ;)), why wouldn't you want to keep your wife happy? :)

            I got that yet I would have expected this difference to an X to be higher... o_O

            I don't remember getting in or out of the Model 3 being any more or less difficult than the Model S.

            What I do remember is the Model S having a rather large "sill" to step over to get in and Model 3 either having pretty much no such thing. My Model 3 test ride was over so fast ...

              If I apply my Model 3 deposit, my Ontario rebate ($14,000) and use a referral code, the bottom-line cheque is $110,786.

              19" wheels 1,500 (hate the UWCs)
              Interior package 5,000
              AWD (guess) 5,000
              Delivery 1,300

              After deposit and Ontario rebate, the bottom-line cheque is $75,124.

              Every time I do this calculation, I'm always amazed by the cost of $90,124 for a "main-stream" car even if it's awesome.

                Yeah, Tesla has a messaging problem. Yes, the Model 3 is technically a "mass market" vehicle, simply because of the numbers they plan to build annually.

                But when it comes to marketing, "mass market" equates to "mainstream". Marketing-wise, the Model 3 is an "entry-level luxury sedan". I've yet to hear Tesla call it that. I guess it's going to be up to us to get this message across.
