Reading the disappointments thread, I thought let's take a positive spin on things.

Is anyone else as shocked as I am about the HVAC? Remember when we were told Model S/X would also get new tech first? Well the HVAC is slick in Model 3 and it's not in Model S/X.

    What about performance?

We knew it would be under 6 seconds to 60, but my brain immediately went to 5.9 seconds to 60. They come in at 5.6 and 5.1 and we haven't seen dual motor and performance figures yet.

What about range? They said 215 miles and came in at 220 and 310.

What about safety? Did you see that comparison vs the Volvo? Wow!

I myself had the wave of emotions last Friday, from what did I just watch? How much does this actually cost? Where are the other options? To finding the press kit and having the horror in finding out the car I wanted was $56,500 and my budget was $50,000. I watched test drive videos from vloggers and fell more in love with the car. I dropped autopilot from my requirements and brought the price down to $51,500. Then I went to sleep.

I woke up and watched more test drive videos. Went over the budget with my wife. She was on board with stretching to $51,500.

I watched more test drive videos.

I fell in love with this car I've never seen in person or driven. :)

I got in my dad's still practically brand new Model S and compared some of the quirks that are "fixed" in Model 3.

I am so pleasantly surprised and impressed by this car that I can't wait.

    Anyone else?

I definitely agree in taking away more positives than negatives and I am EXCITED!

I would say it's more of a rearranging or shuffling of expectations and assumptions not so much a disappointment, because some of the "negatives" were counterbalanced by things that turned into new "positives"...

I thought the interior would be bland (I was definitely a HUD hopeful :)), but I'm actually really liking the extreme simplicity and modern feel.

    Also...

I didn't expect them to give us a 310 option (although we do pay a good amount for it).

It just looks more and more stunning and I haven't even seen it in person yet!

All of the little things that are well thought out... (passenger added cupholders, air vents, coat hooks, etc)

And just the overall feeling of being part of something special, historic, and part of a larger community.

Yeah, most of this information leaves me pleasantly surprised or, at least, content with the company's direction.

Personally, I came away with more positives than negatives...

    1. 310 miles!? I was definitely not expecting that. And my personal estimates jumped around 8k - 10k for the larger battery, but definitely for less miles.

    2. The first wave of pro reviews are reeeeaaaally starting to get me excited. I don't need crazy Falcon Heavy acceleration, but I really like good handling cars. And these first few reviews seem to explicitly call this out.

    3. Premium Upgrades Package includes more than I was expecting, and features that I was hoping for like auto/power folding side mirrors (my work seems to keep making our parking spaces narrower and narrower), and drivers profiles (I'm 6'0, my wife is 5'0). I was expecting to have to buy a lot of individual upgrades for more than 5k.

The stunning minimalist interior - it is revolutionary and will be ageless.
Suddenly all those controls in my old car look pretentious and crass.
The touchscreen with the elegant control of functions.
The simple brilliance of the HVAC and its control.
    The stunning performance.
The seasoned Motor Trend reviewer's ecstatic left-for-words "The Model 3 is so unexpected scalpel-like, I’m sputtering for adjectives" left me wondering how to face the 18 month hiatis before Tesla gets to produce a RHD version
The availability (at a hefty price) of 500 km range.
    The stunning, racy exterior.

I'd expected something special - Elon had made sure we all expected that - but reading the reviews and seeing the photos does leave me surprised at what a truly stunning car this is.

Just tweeted about this Autoweek article on the coming M3 performance version! Of course I'd like my M3 sooner, but the range, performance, styling, etc., meets or exceeds my expectations! :D

I thought the air flow controls were even better than I imagined. Anyone who was complaining about them before, disagree?

    Thank you kindly.

What caught almost all of us by surprise is that in-cabin video camera.

For me, it was the Long Range battery.

As me and the wife have already planned to take our Model 3 to Yellowstone next year, less stops, quicker charging, and more capacity before 80% eliminated several Supercharger stops along the way.

This is a great thread! The stoke here is so palatable...how did this thread peter out? We reserved our M3 during the on-line unveil and threads like this are making the wait...well, more difficult. But better.

    Keep it up!

So now that this thread has come full circle and you actually own the car (congrats!!), how do you feel about it?

Interesting to read my post there (thanks). I really can’t be more excited. I just need more excuses to drive :)

Without writing a blog post, there are no disappointments and only tremendous excitement and joy each time I look at and drive the car!!

Yeah that was a last minute decision. I started to want it more and more with a 75 mile round trip daily commute it's amazing!

As someone who's got a relatively short daily commute, I'm strongly considering skipping EAP for now. Since you've had a chance to get comfortable with it for a few weeks now, when do you find yourself using it the most?

I'm basically just trying to not talk myself into it, and using those funds for other related things (winter tires/wheels/paint protection/etc).

Funny thing is the delayed timeline has meantime I can now justify getting the 19’s because I can pay for them in the extra money I have as down payment.
    Slippery slope!

Exactly! I'm fully aware the longer I have to wait, the more tempting just saying "oh, fine" and splurging for EAP will be. Every time I do, I just think of what other additional accessory I want (not that I must choose between them) and it allays the temptation for a little while longer

Have to admit to already mentally committing to EAP anyway. I have a 52 mile round trip commute and truly frustrating traffic. Driving an EV anyway makes it better, but EAP will make it significantly better

I wouldn't think twice with a commute like that - EAP all the way. Especially if any stretch of that is in congestion.

In my case, my average daily driving is less than 10 miles, whether or not I'm in the office. So the only time I'd get to use EAP is on longer drives (occasional evenings or weekends). So it's a little easier for me to tell myself I don't need it and mentally spend that money somewhere else :D

As the gap between EAP and FSD narrows, I'm willing to revisit my decision - the nice thing is that since it's software-enabled, I can just add it later, as long as I pay the charge (plus the "later" upcharge).
