In October, we got our first look through spy shots at the Chrysler Pacifica minivans that Google has been outfitting with its self-driving technology. Today, Chrysler and Waymo, the new Alphabet company created out of Google’s self-driving effort, have officially unveiled the final design of a Chrysler Pacifica with self-driving hardware. more…

Than you, Elon for insisting that the cameras and radar don't detract from the vehicle's looks.

The looks (as regard cameras, etc.) was clearly done on purpose. I assume to alert humans that the car is self-driven. This is one concern I have with Tesla's approach. If the behavior of a self-driving car differs from that of a human driven one (and why bother if there isn't), it may help to have some visible indication on the car indicating the fact. I could be done without resorting to ugly of course, an outward facing LED display for example.

    Thank you kindly.

To what end? Other drivers shouldn't have to care. What if the self-driving car is actually currently being driven by a human?

Do you NEVER make decisions on what to do based on communication with another driver? Or pedestrians? This happens all the time around me.

Also self-driving cars will soon be seen to have their own idiosyncrasies, which other drivers need to deal with. NO idea what they will be yet, but we shall see. Having those cars clearly identified will make us all safer and more efficient. I know I have to check for Massachusetts plates.

Remember the point is NOT to make autonomous driving indistinguishable from human driving. But rather to make it BETTER.

    Thank you kindly.

Given that most autonomous cars will also be driveable by a human, I see no point in adding "warts" for the sensors. We'd be better served by light-up signs in all the windows that say "AUTONOMOUS" when the human is not controlling it.

Or perhaps, signs that say "LOOK OUT" when the human is controlling it.

How about "Driven by a dummy" and let people try to figure that out.
