Electrek morning green energy brief: Trump likes green?, tallest solar tower in Israel, manufacturing growth and more!

Trump surprising on Renewables? – I’ll file this in the category of ‘believe it when I see it’, but I can see the man bending to the will of the highly popular, and heavy employment numbers of the green industries. Do remember though – “Climate change is a Chinese hoax!” – so the logic you are pitched will be on the $$$ of solar and renewables, and not on the environmental/climate side.

Israel building world’s largest solar tower – Check out the video at the bottom of this post to see construction. 50,000 mirrors, 121 MW, 787 feet tall, $773M and 1% of Israel’s electricity. Natural predators of birds will be played on speakers nearby to limit deaths.

Videos inside of a wind tower – Big machines doing cool things. I like.

Department Secretary of Energy very proud of solar growth under Obama – A list of accomplishments: 1.2GW of solar in 2007, 32GW now. No plants greater than 100MW then, more than 50 now. The Sunshot program is 90% of the way to its 2020 goal of $0.06/kWh for utility scale solar – new goals for 2030 at $0.03/kWh. A lot of good work has been done that will allow for a significant expansion tomorrow.

Only 1.9GW of manufacturing capacity planned in December – So many factories are being built with so many different technologies in so many different countries. We are distributing the creation of electricity instead of depending on finding it in hundred million year old holes in the ground. This will change the world politically as well as economically.

California to 27% of its 33% 2020 renewable goal – The whole of the USA looks toward California for leading edge renewable technology, and to see that the largest state with a dense population can get it done gives hope and motivation. As of October 31, 9,400MW of distributed generation is in place – the goal is 12,000MW. 5,400MW of that distributed energy is self generation.

Germany at almost 1/3 of electricity from renewables – Off shore wind up 57%, while solar was down 1%…lots going on in Germany. Energy storage is coming hard, lets see how they deal with these high percentages.

If the money makes sense, then that's the best news of all.

And look - people who don't believe in "climate change" can still believe in "pollution". There's still a good pollution argument for electric vehicles and solar power.

      Nailed it Garsh!

There are A LOT of people that don't buy into the Global Warming thing but hate breathing polluted air and drinking polluted water. Trump may not be big on the environment but he is definitely big on American jobs and keeping American companies in America. I think that is why Elon was included in that little summit he had a while back. I don't really care what his motivations are as long as he recognizes the efforts of American entrepreneurs and their success being a catalyst for creating jobs the end result is the same.

Just realized that this sounds like a Trump ad. I could care less what Trump's motivations are on way or the other on this issue. I didn't even vote for the guy. I just want to see him and the rest of the federal government stay out of the way and let companies like Tesla bring their superior products to market and then let the consumers decide.

        Dream on babe. Scientific fact.
US are setting themselves at a huge disadvantage to the rest of the world, by only focussing on US-jobs and putting up trade restrictions, but who cares? Luckily the rest of the world has come to its senses.

This is exactly what I didn't want this to become. My point was that people do not respond well to what they perceive as preaching. Whether that is the intent or not that is how many people are going to feel about the global warming argument. I think it is a huge mistake to try to push these views on others...it will only be met with resistance. We want to bring people into the EV family, not push them away.

The point I was trying to make is that regardless of his motivations and beliefs, as long as Mr. Trump creates and supports an environment conducive to Tesla's and other EV manufacturers health then we all win

        Respectfully not your babe. ;)

@MichelT3 , I'm afraid you misunderstood @Dan Detweiler ... and remember, we're all trying to stay away from politics (though it can be hard at times... :))... I certainly did not read in Dan's first note that he did not believe in global warming... (& even going as far as insisting he did not wish to appear as a Trump backer...) and he made that even clearer in his response...
I think we can all support the intent to bring (& keep!) us all together on the path to a better place through ever increasing penetration of BEV transportation!! We're a great family here and I am proud to be part of it with y'all! :rainbow:
