Fossil fuel industry is pushing for new electric vehicle fees in several states, says report

Concrete efforts to slow down electric vehicle adoption are taking form. Last week, we reported on the oil and biofuel industries forming an alliance to lobby against electric vehicle incentives and now the same industries are being linked to other efforts to undermine EVs.

A new report links the fossil fuel industry to a series of new legislations being introduced in several states in order to impose fees on electric vehicles. more…

I'm down to pay fees as it'll be inevitable but holy the FF industry must be scared. There aren't even reasonably priced long range EVs yet and they're already worried about a handful of people paying more.

There's going to be lots of this going on over next few years unless car and oil and gas industries get pro active. car makers are moving slowly but there will be a massive reduction in fuel demand for cars etc. then that combined with car dealers losing revenue with massively reduced servicing. the other thing quite noticeable at the moment is quite large power player in finance etc. seeming to knock Tesla at every opportunity.

the majority of the road damage is done by semi trucks, not passenger vehicles. Locally, made even worse since the local port was closed down a few years ago by the longshoremen's union and all the ships that previously came into Portland now are unloaded in Seattle and trucked down from there. Same for exports leaving Ptld, those are trucked up to Seattle. [/rant]

If states are worried about how to pay to repair their roads, they should be increasing fees to trucks causing the damage, not screwing around with the small fraction of vehicles not paying into the fuel tax.
(from someone who will be paying $150, in addition to the standard fee, to register an EV in WA State)
