    GM has been fleshing out its plans for autonomous driving over the past year and it is becoming clear that they are serious about the technology since their $1 billion acquisition of Cruise Automation.

    Now a new report suggests that they plan on deploying a fleet of “thousands of autonomous Chevy Bolt EV with Lyft” as soon as next year. more…

    While this would be great news (if it actually happens), to me it's just "how to make an ugly car even uglier". I'll wait for full autonomy on my Model 3 thank you very much.

    The equipment alone would be extremely expensive, for that many cars. Then, there's the cost of all those cars. It's not like people are going to buy them with zero trunk space. It's an interesting proposal.

    @AscendedSaiyan beat me to half my thought ;)

    Is GM fronting the cost of the autonomous equipment, or is Lyft? If it is anything like the lidar shown on the pix included in the article, GM is going to be losing much more than $9k per sale!
    not to mention it looks like a really easy vandalism target with most of their equipment installed exterior of the car.
