OTOH, a VW Golf R is $41,000, and not a whole lot quicker 0-60 than the Bolt (5.2s vs 6.5s).
There will be a segment of the population that prefers hatchbacks I guess.
They're crazy, but they exist (says the current owner of a hatchback).

Here is an interesting side by side analysis which substantiates differentiation between the Bolt and our favorite Model ≡ in a classical marketing method... and what we've been saying all along... The two cars should actually not be compared, yet if you do... the relative performance advantage shows the clear winner... :)

As most of you know, I have been and continue to be a huge Volt fan (I have driven one for the past 4 years). I really think it was the best option under $45,000 at the time. I continue to feel like the Bolt was a huge, un-thought through mistake for Chevy. It offers nothing above the Volt other than 200 mile range but without long distance charge support its utility, for me at least, is less than my car. A damn sight more ugly too. Really a disappointment. I am sure some will find it adequate but for the money, if I didn't have a Model 3 as an option, I would just get another Volt.

I don't understand why they didn't name it “Volt 2” or “Volt [other name]” to avoid this confusion between models. Sounds like it would have been better as an evolution of the Volt as well.

@Kizzy , who knows what the marketing wizards in Detroit were thinking... Since it is fundamentally another car than the Volt, from a basic design & looks perspective, they might have wanted to accentuate differentiation by labelling it with this new name... maybe they did not realize the intrinsic appeal the name Volt might represent or did not want to 'devalue' that Volt image with a smaller, arguably boxier car, thought touted as their first long range BEV.. dunno...?!
Somebody must have thought it funny to replace the V by a B and still say something meaningful... C would have created legal issues and D would not have worked as well...! :p
    I rest my case... :)

@Kizzy , you are going to love this! Check this out... GM apparently already promoting the Bolt in Europe, though they are for now struggling to deliver beyond California & Oregon, under the name Opel Ampera-e!!! :p (Note that the Volt was Ampera!!! :))
They must have listened to you after all, at least for their ambitious plans across the water...
You'll hear (if you have the patience to listen to the whole thing... ~14') the Opel guy announce deliveries as of the spring '17... at a price yet to be disclosed... Considering the recent claims they lose ~$9k on every car, they may be tempted to go for at least high thirties/low forties k€, which I would never pay for that. The interior in particular looks very 'cheap' IMHO...
