Tesla’s least expensive vehicle is now the Model S 75 at $69,500 after big overnight price drop & included option

Tesla has updated their design studio overnight and made significant changes to pricing and options for the Model S and X, seemingly streamlining them in anticipation of the upcoming Model 3 release. The 75kWh Model S, now Tesla’s cheapest vehicle, has received a whopping $7,500 price drop to $69,500 – just $1,500 more than the 60kWh version which was discontinued yesterday. They’ve also added the all glass roof (formerly $1,500) and automatic rear power liftgate as standard equipment on the Model S, so the base model has become a significantly better value with these updates.

A few other changes were made to option availability – the smart air suspension can no longer be added to the 75kWh Model S (still available on all other models), and the high amperage (72 amp) charger is now included with 100kWh models but unavailable on all other battery sizes. The high amperage charger is separate from the DC Supercharging system, and allows faster AC charging if paired with a Tesla wall connector ($550) and attached to a circuit capable of delivering 72 amps.

Tesla also released a few new Model X features overnight, which you can read about over here in Fred’s post.

Tesla messing with the configs again after a financial quarter, like clockwork. This is it's really good for range lovers as the 75 is now the base config. Playing with the Canadian configurator brings my config into almost doable territory... :)

Wow... that is a game changer... At least for some... interesting that this essentially maintains the previous base price of an S60 with all glass roof! Go for it, y'all whose finances permit this!! :rainbow:

FYI, though, here in Belgium, this revision still means a Model S starting price at €84,800 (21% VAT incl.), with €5.8k for the dual motor option... Still way out of my range I'm afraid...
Also, comparing with US prices, with a current $/€ exchange rate of 1.065, a straight conversion to Euros before applying the VAT would give us €80k... about 6% below the real € price...

With this logic, Model ≡ base price would be ~€42k (note: a 6-cylinder BMW 330i with automatic transmission & 252 HP comes out at €41.5k... while the less powerful 320iA, only 184 HP so probably less relevant, costs < €36k...) - woohoo... will be tight... French incentives sure would help...

It will be interesting to see what they do next since the current financial quarter ends right when Model 3 begins production...

with when you expect your delivery to be, you can carry on at least until spring/summer 2018 - then re-evaluate how the dream is aligning with reality ;) no need to rush into anything rash at this point.

I hear you Michael! On a teacher's salary the Model 3 will be the only Tesla in my sights for the foreseeable future.

Courtesy of Teslarati, this cool YouTube video illustrates how easily & quickly you can upgrade an S60D to 75 kWh, OTA, after having acquitted yourself of the now nominal $2k premium... Impressive!
