    Electrek has learned that Tesla is planning to discontinue the least expensive versions of the Model S next month. Today, Tesla started sending out emails to warn potential buyers who have shown interest in the vehicles that the change is coming and Electrek confirmed the news with Tesla. more…

    Not sure how true this is, but I speculate that some people may buy the least expensive MS in order to cut in line for the Model 3 reservation, and that they also have the option to trade in a relatively new MS. Sure, they may lose a few thousand dollars, but the advantage of getting ahead of hundreds of thousands of other buyers could be worth it. Maybe Tesla is protecting itself from these types of loopholes?

    Really not surprising. Makes sense as they've snagged those that could reach up to an S and didn't want to wait. You can't sell someone a house and lock off a couple rooms hoping they'll buy them from you one day.

    I really can't imagine people going through all that trouble just to get their 3 earlier. Unless of course they were considering an S anyway.
