After BMW and Nissan, Toyota is now the third automaker directly trying to convince Tesla Model 3 reservation holders to drop their pre-orders and buy its vehicles instead. Who can blame them? Tesla created a pool of ~400,000 potential buyers of a ~$35,000 electric vehicle. Automakers now want to tap into that pool. more…

Toyota is going to end up taking a huge bath on that Mirai fuel cell car. There are exactly 29 hydrogen filling stations in the US and 2 in Canada. So basically unless you can convince your neighbours and city council to allow you make your own highly volatile hydrogen in your garage (not gonna happen) you have basically nowhere to fuel the car.

    "Fool Cells" indeed.

The new LEAF is better but hardly a competitor for a Model 3. It all boils down to Tesla offering a compelling EV even if it's a year and a bit away from being delivered and there's a significant amount of people who are willing to wait for it.

and everyone signed up fully expecting to wait until the end of 2017 to see the final car. It would make more sense if these were coming out a year after the end of 2017 and Model ☰s hadn't yet started being delivered. THEN i can see some not willing to wait it out. But when all appear to be on track with what we knew on March 31, 2016, even more production than first expected, most who reserved because they truly want the Model ☰ would be silly to jump over to something else now.

I would bet a year away from first delivery.

Woz seems to think he can get something better from GM apparently ;) Look, I admire Woz for what he did to found Apple but sometimes he's not the brightest when it comes to other stuff. But I get it, he's a gear head like me and has mucho bucks to do as he wishes for the rest of his life and he likes to try different toys.
