Tesla Model S driver walks away from crash with a truck at ‘tremendous speed’

Earlier this week, the fact that the Tesla Model S broke the machine used to test the roof structure of cars during a round of tests by US regulators came up again on social media despite having happened over 3 years ago. Coincidentally, a Model S owner put the roof to the test today in an unfortunate real world scenario when he crashed into a truck on the Autobahn in Germany.

The Model S lodged itself under the truck and despite the severity of the impact, the driver reportedly was able to get himself out of the car and walk to safety – though his injuries were described as “serious,” but not critical. more…

Of course we'll wait to get final information regarding the accident but on the surface it appears to be a case of an incredibly stupid driver and an incredibly strong car that saved said stupid driver's butt. Points for Tesla.

You are so right, @Dan Detweiler ! While the car was obviously designed by talented engineers who also knew to select particularly robust materials, the human being at the wheel (at least for now... :)) may actually be well advised to consider upgrade via OTA to level 5 self-driving asap if they forget that the basics laws of physics can't be broken!!
Lucky guy thanks to great company!!

Bruchsal is near a well know stretch on the German Autobahn 5 where there is a combination of construction sites, busy traffic and fast driving. 100 Mph is NOT fast there.
If you're doing 100 Mph and not paying attention, a stationary object is difficult to avoid.
This incredible strenght is another reason to trust Tesla. Let's hope the Model 3 is as strong. They did promise us the full 5 stars...
