Tesla retroactively extends free unlimited Supercharging to all current vehicles

In a surprising move, Tesla is now extending free Supercharging to all current vehicles. In other words, all current Tesla owners up to today have access to free Supercharging for the life of their vehicle.

Tesla had previously announced the change of the program to a paid model after 400 kWh per year, which was supposed to take place starting January 1st. It later extended the deadline for two weeks before making the change and it is now retroactively extending the deadline to today. more…

Could this be it? Could this be the icing on the cake for all current owners to keep them happy(ish) when they reveal the new specs on the updated S and X?

    Fingers and toes crossed.

Wonder what the percentage of new S/X purchase use a referral code, and if the current referral $1000+free SCing will be just this current cycle or will continue.

Or how many previous owners who bought a new S/X this year have been complaining endlessly to Tesla because they
assumed they would always have SCing and hadn't paid attention to the press release saying it was changing. Or previous owners who have been complaining endlessly to Tesla about the anticipation of any future care they may buy from Tesla not having free SCing.

    My first
thought when I saw this come up yesterday afternoon was there have been enough existing owners complaining that they were rethinking the 400kWh free plan and making accommodations... possibly keeping this as standard then offering a pre-paid for life SCing (as they used to do for the $2k or whatever amount).

I'm also thinking that Tesla may have the S and X line running smoothly and efficient enough that they can take on more sales.

New super chargers and batteries are coming. Keep the sales up until at least until the reveal ...... sorry, the delivery event, happens. On that note, as they won't even show off the car at the next June event, then I think it's still ok to refer to the July event as a reveal.

Btw, isn't it strange that they haven't confirmed a date in July yet, but they have already published the reveal date of the Semi in September?

This is Tesla marketing / advertising 101. Rather than waste money on print or air time and who knows how much on creative, they're putting those resources into promotions like these. This is a direct attempt to keep S/X sales steady through the rest of the year. If half their potential customers stop and wait for a model 3 they could have a really bad quarter.

I'm curious to see if there are any updates to the S/X that coincide with the M3 launch. Not sure what those might be.
