I read thru the article last night (and it has been posted in a couple places already), but damn the MotorTrend guys know how to take a nice looking photo - even when just of a frunk!

The shoot with the alpha car was awesome, but this one does take the cake!

I don't know if many people here read the car magazines. The Alfa Romeo Giulia that was referenced in the motor trend article is the current champion of most of the comparisons between BMW, Audi, Mercedes etc. For them to say the model three beats it hand down hands-down is quite an accomplishment!

I'm a fan of white vehicles, but this red just catches my attention like no other red has. I can also imagine it with the dark grey wheels.

As with so much of journalism these days, I am left wondering what they got wrong. For example they estimated that the long range car will have 85 kWh. So they are directly contradicting something Elon Musk has said. Do they have NEW information? Did they just not do their homework?

    Thank you kindly.

I think they did not do their homework. Elon stated that 75 kWh was the most that would fit in the model three. Also there was a leak that suggested it has a super high efficiency of 237 watt hours per mile. If this is true, the battery would not need to be that large.

Precisely, and this is also why there is NO way with such efficiency that the standard battery is as big as 60 kWh... and only yields 220 miles of range... I am on Elektrek's side here and figure 50-55 kWh at the most.

And @garsh is right, if the latter would be officialized, there will be folks who think that makes the Bolt a better car... Yet, though I know it clearly isn't, it clearly bugs me (sorry VW! :D) that the std battery will only give me 220 miles... oh well, reality check on today's battery cost still I guess...

Yea, this is my preferred color and wheel choice. Bummer that they are offering the grey or black rims options like on the S and X. Thinking about buying some used 20" X grey rims down the line when I want to change the look

My fingers are starting to bleed from mouse clicking the refresh button for my Delivery Estimator page so I opened the hard copy of Motor Trend October 2017 issue to re-read the Tesla Model 3 First Drive article.

Most of the article is the same as the online version linked above but IT'S A LITTLE DIFFERENT!!!!

I'm not sure if it's accurate but the two biggest things that jumped out at me was after the line "Interior air (from subtle vents) is aimed by moving spots around on the display, even dividing the airflow to send it past each ear." there is this little line "There are side-by-side twin inductive iPhone chargers". Also there is a line in the print article "All Model 3 owners will have to pay for Supercharger access, but Tesla says only to cover costs, not make a profit"

Given the reputation of Motor Trend, these 2 major differences may have some meaning or someone really screwed up and didn't edit the print version as thoroughly as the online version. I don't doubt that there may be wireless chargers in the car that Franz owns but nowhere else in Tesla's specs does it show that inductive Apple chargers are part of the features. And IIRC, wireless Apple charging hasn't even started yet until the new iPhones gets released....

I remember reading those in the online version. Most likely they edited some statements after a few weeks, too late for print or those of us who read the online version in the first few milliseconds it was posted :)
