You place a $1,000 reservation and you are spot No. 400,001 ("not a great place to be"). And now you wonder how late you'll receive the Model 3, being No. 400,001 and all. Is it possible to move up the list?

With Tesla Model 3's reservations reaching ~ 400,000+ reservations, there are a few ways one can jump the line.
    • First off Become a Tesla or Space X employee: Yes, they are the top 10% that will receive the Model 3 before the rest of the horde. Before you question it, yes it may be hard to become an employee at these two esteemed companies. It still doesn't mean you shouldn't try though right? Fresh slate, fresh car, and a fresh company? :D
    • Next up, Move to California: West Coast of the United States gets main priority in terms of deliveries. It will progress east eventually leading to Europe and Asia. Yes, it is hard to relocate your entire family to the land of palm trees and In-n-Out burgers. Maybe while you are at it, get a job at the Fremont Factory or the Tesla Lathrop Parts Facility, or at SPACE X.
    • Max out your Model 3 purchase (not sure if true or not): The more features and larger battery pack you have, the larger the chance you will have of receiving your Model 3 before the rest of the world. Maybe even combine all steps stated, to be one of the first to drive on the roads.
    • Lastly, Buy or lease a Model S or X which will put you in-front of new coming buyers. Yes the more unreasonable it sounds, it's true. If you are a current owner of a Tesla or new owner of the other models, you get shifted up in "priority"
Now you know the options, how far will you go to receive your long awaited Model 3?

There are many reasons one would want early delivery of the Model 3. From tax rebate elegibility to carpool lane stickers, to first Model 3 on the block, most reservation holders want their Model 3 as soon as Tesla can deliver it.

At least I live in California, maybe that gives me a chance to beat some of y'all ;).

Sad that none of these apply to me. I reserved on 4/10/16. I presume i'm like in the 300,000's :(. I live in Maine lol.

Someone should look into the one about the maxing out the Model 3. It kind of makes sense cause, Tesla would want to put out the maxed out cars so they can make more money before producing base cars etc.. Does the owner of this forum know? @TrevP

Elon did mention they would put highly optioned cars into priority along with West Coast and existing owners first. Given the ramp numbers they're hoping to hit quickly I doubt it would be more than 3-4 month before we start seeing cars on the east coast. This is provided however that they indeed hit their production targets on time.

We'll know more about this time next year when production might be on the verge of starting.

The ModelS 2 year lease prices are very tempting I must say.

Can't tell you how many times I've come close to just taking the plunge and getting the model S. lol Ultimately in a few years time after having the 3 I'm probably going to upgrade to and S.

Yeah the S is totally my dream car, the 3 will replace it I'm sure as I wouldn't be afraid to drive it! While I'd usually not put $600 a month into a car right now I'm putting 12-1500 away for the 3. I probably won't do it. Get a model3 and then a house with a garage and upgrade to a 2020 ModelS :D

Well with the new announcement of the new battery pack (100kwh), some might be enticed by it and actually lease out a 135,000 dollar car. Seriously, 0-60 in 2.5 seconds.. For Christ's sake, it's a family car lol. :D

We have very similar aspirations and an even more identical planning process to reach those goals lol.

It's funny how the goal isn't to get the nice house but to get the nice house for the nice car haha. As much as I want a Model S it wouldn't feel right to park it in the harsh winters.

Deliveries start on the west coast, starting with California and going east to the rest of the world.

    Check out http://model3tracker.info
They've been collecting reservation information from all over the world. Probably the best source outside of Tesla which well never have access to.

How does Tesla know you’re a current owner? Just by your name when you reserve? I don’t see a place to log in as an owner in the reservation screen.

If you’re a current owner you already have a car with a VIN number in your Tesla account. That’s how they know

Sure but there is nowhere to indicate VIN or account in the actual reservation screen. They know simply by name? Is there a reservation spot from an owners login screen?
