I'm in SFO on my vacation/road trip and, of course, the first thing planned is a stop at the Tesla factory and a test drive of the P100D. OMFG! (Pardon my French). That baby MOVES. I startled Marco, the lovely Tesla guy, as I punched it and kept the pedal to the metal. He said most are surprised and ease up right away. (pussies...). Now my dilemma. I have ordered a M3, but this is the rocket I want. Giving up my reservation would feel wrong; after all we've been together for so long. (Oh crap, now I sound like a c&w song)

I did get to see a 3 in the parking lot, and it was very nice. Red, sitting next to a red S. I offered to kiss some ass for either a sit in one or a ride. Marco said not possible. I also tried bs'ing my way into a factory tour. Nada. I need a skinnier body and bigger tits.

My only thumbs down was that the 100 I tested was so new that autopilot was not yet calibrated. The only cool demo was the summon feature, and having the car park itself. I was also very surprised that they did not have any of the solar tiles in a display. The showroom only had a powerwall.

I will be in San Francisco for three more days, until the 20th, so if you know a guy who knows a guy...
    well, send me a line.

I'm jealous you got to see the M3 in person. I'm concerned about hearing it was "very nice." It makes me worried when I get mine I won't be overly impressed.

Please don't be worried. You must understand that for me it is all about the performance. I got to drive the 100, but only look at the 3. Until the 3 is available for a test, I can only comment on the esthetics.

I test drove the 90D last week. I felt a lot like the Lexus I drive now. The luxury and handling seemed similar. After, I got home I started second guessing myself about ordering the model 3. I'm concerned i miss the luxurious feel of my car and I don't know how the 3 will perform.

The 100 in ludicrous mode is double or triple the price of the little model 3. Obviously if you've got the spare change for the 100 ...go for it!

It's crazy fast as I've driven an earlier model in ludicrous mode and it was awesome.

At the time it was 127 grand. I passed and ordered the little 3 ..

I've seen it too and I'd qualify as 'gorgeous', Vera... ;)

A short trip across the Lower 48 would reassure you... Go for it! :)

Well, as you probably know, we can only say that, until we hear more about a future PXXD model, you can expect about 5 sec. 0-60 time on the LRB... Not the mid-2's of a P100D S, yet still quite fast, some call it 'Porsche' performance already... which for every day use seems pretty swift to me... :)

From what @TrevP reported after attending the 7/28 Delivery Event, the luxurious feel of cars with Premium mode was confirmed. Of course it's always relative, yet it will probably be at least as good as, or better than current S interiors.

Negative. After 30+ years riding motorcycles on and off road, skydiving, scuba diving, travelling alone, etc etc my Guardian Angel(s) are still in great shape. Also, 40+ years behind a wheel, I know my limits.

If you have the money for the rollercoaster-on-the-road that is the P100D, go for it :) You'll be helping Tesla more, too, than a Model 3 reservation does - not just in absolute sale price figures, but because it means that they get the money a lot sooner and can pump it into the Model 3 rampup.

Question ... on the Model 3 side of things are waIting for performance?

You’re not close to comparing apples to apples.

Agreed. I've been fortunate enough to sit in one and drive it and the car feels extremely luxurious in terms of feel. As I've mentioned in my other thread about the car, I'd even go as far to say that I like the interior better than my loaded BMW X3. Both are really nice but I love the feel of the seats and steering wheel in the Model 3 and the minimalist look just seems so much better (probably more about personal preference). I've never driven the Model S, but it feels just as premium as those.

I also can't imagine a car with more pep than the Model 3. I realize the S is much faster, but seriously, unless you're racing the thing, I just don't get why you need 0-6 in 2 seconds. At the price point, it's right in line with the speed of a BMW 335 and other cars in that category. You're never going to match the speed of a $150K car at a third of the price.

In addition, I have personally sat in a Model 3, and found it a very pleasant space to be in. Mind you I am more a function over form type of person, who can be just as happy in a stripped race car interior.

Having spent a good amount of time in 90D and 100D I would still pick my 3. I like the styling and "cool factor" better, but aside from that I find Ludicrous mode acceleration to be an experience bordering on uncomfortable. The 3 is plenty zippy without being startling.

That is by no means meant to be a majority opinion, and for those of you who prefer the 100D I say, Godspeed! (See what I did there?) I am not a "car person." (I am a horse person, for the record :))

Sounds like your main goal is the acceleration, to which I say: MS P100D all the way!

That being said, I've driven a Model S P90DL and, while it's thrilling, it's not my cup of tea (gasp! sacrilege!). Seriously though, Ludicrous is great fun, but I don't really like the sensation of being thrown back into my seat and having my eyeballs squeezed. I feel like every time I do Ludicrous I hold my breath and "brace for impact", and for that reason I never used it unless it was to show off the feature to friends. :D

The 3 is gentler in that regard and still plenty fast for what I need (quick lane changes, first off the line at stoplights), but it's definitely not as impressive as the P100DL's acceleration.

Buy a Model 3, and start saving for the new Roadster. It will make the P100D seem slow.
