The Alphas had the dash and center console trim matching, if it were wood or white (and presuming if other trim colors were an option they would as well)
    XnJKm6d.jpg Tesla-Model-3-9-1280x957.jpg

But to date, all RCs and now the spied production cars have all had the brown wood dash trim and gloss Piano Black center console trim.

    BbWooAR.jpg

So, what does everyone think is going on with the mismatched trim we've seen?
Are parts outstanding from one vendor or another? Would a dash trim come from a different source than a console trim?
Is the dash trim a placeholder for something we've not seen?
    maybe spaceshiplike?
    is that the dry powder?
If so, why wouldn't they have had a temp piece that matched the center console?
Would the designers really think the single brown wood piece fit in when there wasn't any other carried thru the design?

I wouldn't mind the wood if it were the Dark Ash, but the brown just seems to be out of place - especially when the other hard trim is Piano Black...

Very interesting point. I noticed the contrast but didn't give it much thought.

I can't help but think this trim is final and other options appear over time (dark ash, aluminum, piano black, carbon fiber, etc).

I think the dash and console will eventually match just as in the alpha prototypes. If not I'm hoping evannex makes a applique so they match. Also the rear air vent trim too.

I doubt it will be for any other kind of
display as most of it is already being blocked by the steering wheel and central display.

I am also hoping that piano black will not be the only trim as we have it in both of our current cars and apart it being a fingerprint magnet :( (the central display will be bad enough FFS!) I personally think it looks a bit cheap...

No. It's just a dash trim. Nothing special hidden from us.

I hope they don't match the dash to the rest of trim, at least as regards white. The Bolt is having some problems with glare off the 'ash' colored dash, to the windshield. Flat and Black is best.

    Thank you kindly.

Don't like wood trim and I don't really want premium interior, hoping basic interior will come in dark grey or black. Will spend the money on AWD and larger battery.

Not sure about the glare but white interior with white dash looks so classy imho.

The glare isn’t just dependant on the dash+trim color and windshield shape.
It depends a lot on the glass itself too - the way the layers have been bonded can alleviate or exacerbate the issue.
And, obviously, there will be a lot less glare if the glass is coated with an AR coating on the inside.

Judging by the reflections, Tesla’s glass appears to be AR coated (and IR-reflective coated) on the outside.
We’ll see if it’s got an AR coating on the inside as well.

We don't know how Model 3 ordering works yet. AWD and larger battery may very well imply you're getting premium spec. We don't know if custom spec is even possible yet...

Premium upgrade will most likely be offered as a package, same as S. Meaning you will end up getting leather, sound, heating etc all as one package.

Awd and battery should be separate options, not tied to premium interior.

I think some people are getting confused on terminology.

The "premium interior" is what Tesla calls the vegan fake leather. It's not necessarily an upgrade - it might be part of the base package.

We're all speculating is my point.

The car appears likely to come in 3 trims though... standard, premium, and performance. To simplify the production process expect bundling. That can be options like seat materials just as well as it can be battery sizes.

Performance sounds like I'll need to at for crap I don't want....and that's a shame..I really just want awd performance mode possibly autonomous 1 option and maybe the glass roof..

Some photos of the cars with the painted roof look too bulbous from the front view...

I hope we can see the actual cars before we order since we are a quarter of a million cars down on the list.

I have heard a rumor the reservation holders in the ten zev states might take precedent and move us closer to a delivery date ..something about selling zev credits to other manufacturers is profitable especially when they are in zev states?

I'm enjoying the anticipation and excitment

where have you sen a photo with a painted metal roof? I have only seen glass on every one since the alpha.

Tesla has no advantage of selling in ZEV states over others since they do not sell emission vehicles. I think anyone that may have started that rumor is trying to convince themselves they may get theirs delivered a bit earlier.
Until we hear differently, its best to assume the rollout Tesla has said a few times (Cal, then west to east invited by reservation) is what we should expect.

Grey car on Facebook. Rumors are what they are....take it for what it's worth or what it's not worth.

I don't find the "Premium Upgrades" package particularly compelling, other than the (very small section of) glass roof. A glass roof might be worth $5k to me (cough, choke) except it comes with the "open pore" wood dash, which has a fatal flaw.

There are no other wood accents anywhere else in the interior to tie it in.

I've looked at all the interior pics I can find and that strip of wood looks mighty lonely, sad, and out of place. Every time I look at it, those open pores turn into a mouth singing Simon and Garfunkel's "I Am a Rock" and it gets stuck in my head for hours.

This is something I'd be willing to pay money to avoid, and thus, seems like should be a standard feature and not a premium one. Am I the only one that finds this extremely weird, like to the point of a design fail?
