Tesla email blast promoting the Model S came out this afternoon, again reiterating Elon's twitter points of the Model 3 being the lesser of the two in price, performance, size, etc. This one specifically notes the S has "more customization choices".

What's everyone think will not be offered on the 3? I already assumed we would have fewer interior decor choices - maybe A or B... ? And maybe fewer seat fabric/leather choices... ? Maybe no biodefense mode? or PUP?

That, and possibly fewer color and wheel options. I just hope that Smart Air Suspension is still an option. If I remember correctly, the cars at the reveal event had it. Is this right?

I hope so too! The alpha 3/31 test drive cars were said to have SAS per their engineer/drivers.

Sounds eerily like what I mentioned before about "good, better, best" types of bundles for efficiency. It will be interesting to see how they go about that. I hope it's not too cookie cutter...

    Here's my predictions:
    • I'm leaning toward 2 interior color choices, black or something light (grey/tan/white) or black textile each with a set decor option.
    • I'd like the PUP if it is a choice, but am thinking it will not likely be. maybe also no upgraded sound system.
    • probably 2 wheel choices; small (18"?) or large (19" or 20"?) each in one color option. (they already sell Model S/X wheels separately for those that want a different wheel style after the fact or want a dedicated winter set)
    • I think there will be 5 or 6 paint colors to pick from - HOPEFULLY some updates, maybe from some of these samples
    • 3 roof choices - they've already clearly noted metal, glass or operable glass
    • Hopefully they keep the SAS that was on the alphas
    • I don't think it will have a powered trunk lift/close. As long as the trunk lid(s) have good gas struts that hold it's weight, I think that is sufficient.
    • I don't think it'll have power mirrors - but then I don't know that I've ever had the need to fold my current cars' mirrors and the Model ☰ should be about the same width as them.
    • I think the subzero (back seats/steering/wipers/nozzles) will be reduced maybe just to adding the rear seats.
    • don't think there will be the high amp charger option.
Hopefully I'm being pessimistic and there will be more choices/options than I'm thinking. Otherwise, it'll save me some money not having to order PUP, SAS, Carbon Fibre, etc ;)

Tesla's statement above, while seemingly a downer for Model 3ers, actually got me excited.

Somehow I got the impression that the Model 3 will be so impressive that they need to give reassurance that the Model S is still the better car. :D

If this is indeed a BMW 3 series competitor like I've been saying all along they'd better have at least the same base options offered on those cars.

It seems pretty clear the alpha reveal event cars are indeed indicative of production intent and while we don't know if they had power folding mirrors (why wouldn't they, it's not a premium feature anymore. Even Kia has them) I do know the cars had power seats.

With a 30K plus car , powered wing mirrors should be default.

Air suspension is an unnecessary expense. I have coils on my S and it's fine. Every time I get an air suspension loaner I try hard to notice the difference and can't.

I think the performance option will be a long time coming. Probably late 2018 if that. That giant air filtration system will be nowhere in sight. I agree lift gate systems and automaic doors won't be a thing. My theory is that the 3 will over 12 to 36 month period work its way closer to the model S once the initial demand is met. Depending on how things go that could be a long time.

Looking at the order customization for the model S/X, I guess:

Color: There are currently only 7 colors for the S, we know they can do 10. Perhaps the 3 will get black plus 3 free colors, and perhaps MC red and white as upgrades. Much as I love black, let's hope they don't have 3 black options and no non-monochromatic colors. Green, of course. ;)
Roof: Three options have been mentioned, I expect them to keep those.
Wheels: ? two options maybe. Would seem to be high margin for little investment.
Interior: Two or three colors (no wood). I don't need fake wood colored plastic, so I might be biased. Perhaps a leather seat option.
Autopilot: FSD definitely. EAP, small chance it might not be an option.
Premium upgrade: Perhaps not. For no apparent reason, I expect HEPA will make the cut.
    Air suspension: Probably not.
Subzero: Probably not. [Edit: Probably as it seems to be the only way to get heated seats]
Sound system: Seems an obvious place to cut back, but REALLY high margin.
    High Amperage charger: no.
    Tow package: yes.
Accessory hitch: Doesn't seem to be offered anymore on the X. So, perhaps not on the 3 either (especially if air shocks not required).

    Thank you kindly.

Why do people want power folding mirrors?

Give me awd performance pack and autonomous mode and I'm in.

If you live in a city or other dense urban area where parallel parking is a regular need it can be handy. Adding the option on a car is a lot cheaper than replacing mirrors 2-3 times a year.

Now wouldn't this be a priority? Since using heat kills range, and heated seats are more efficient than running the heater, it seems odd to not make this an option.

@teslaliving , you must have smoother roads in the Northeast than what we sometimes have to experience in WE... ;) Anyways, my view is that this, like many other options, is something that will matter to some more than others.. And it's ok like that, that's why it's (maybe for Model ≡...) optional... ;)

I park on a narrow street originally designed for horses. My wing mirror has been knocked off twice in two years. [200 euro so far ]
I normally fold them in but a late night arrival and less than flush parking to the kerb and it is always a risk.

Air Suspension is a must for me. Went over a speed bump in a parking lot and bottomed out on it. Not scraping my beautiful Model 3 across something like that! Slanted driveways do the same thing. AWD, Air Suspension and a bigger battery and I'm set. Everything else is gravy in my eyes.

Agree. The Model 3 will have more ground clearance than my current cars but one of those scrapes unless hitting my driveway (with rollover curbs) at just the right angle and the other grounds out no matter.
So for me it's not about ride feel (I drive on suspension that is much stiffer than anything tesla will install) but being able to lift it at specific places.

<wrong>Subzero only adds heated seats to the back seat (and steering wheel). Front seats come standard heated on the other models. </wrong>

Nevermind. It looks like all heated seats only come in the subzero package. So, yeah, it has to be an option. Heated front seats used to be standard if I recall correctly.

    Thank you kindly.
