I'm on my third prius, I have a 2012 right now. This car is noisy inside (road noise and wind noise), and it rides rough, especially in the back seat. It gets very tiring to drive this car over long distances.

Does anyone have any idea what Tesla is doing for the Model 3? I'm told the Model S is one of the most quiet cars on the road. Will some of that interior insulation quality be included in the M3? How about that ride? The M3 is quite a bit heavier than the Prius I believe, maybe it will ride better? I'm wondering if the car will be comfortable for serious cross country trip.

    thanks,

go back and watch some of the reveal night ride along videos on youtube. the music in the staging area for the rides was quite loud, and when a car pulls up and opens the doors, it goes from just hearing a very slight buzz of music to glaringly loud. just basing it on that, I'd say there will be a fair amount of noise reduction material in the Model 3.

Remember that the Audi A4 and BMW 3 are the benchmarks. Tesla's interior VP is from Audi. I predict a quiet and comfortable car.

I think that hiring seasoned pros and the focus on the 3 as an autonomous vehicle will mean a comfortable user friendly interior. Seats, cupholders, the screen, the space with the glass roof will be things Tesla does right with the 3. One thing I am looking forward to is the onair updates. Never owned a car that changed and got better overtime.

Doesn't take much extra stuff to sound proof a car. My Lincoln has batting attached to the interior trim, headliner and has little foam inserts in the body panel gaps between the doors and hood to deaden engine noise.

But it does add expense and time to the production line. Lincoln had to pay a union worker (or three) to add that soundproofing in the various locations. And that adds another position (or three) to the assembly line, and more time to complete each car.

All very true points. I'm very curious to see what Tesla has come up with as far as automation on the new Model 3 line, at least with the current version 0.5

My early 2014 Model S has quite a bit of road noise. No engine noise of course, but you can hear the road quite a bit. It got better in later builds and some added their own sound deadening. I'd expect the 3 to be a bit noisier than other cars in the same price class as Tesla doesn't focus on that problem and others add more luxury type stuff.

Like Trev always reminds us, what is relevant is the target entry luxury segment, best exemplified by the BMW 3-Series. Clearly all cars in this segment have gotten better and better sound insulation in recent years. IMHO, I don't imagine T≡SLA would have designed Model ≡ without this evolution, and consequent expectations of customers for this class of cars, on their white board (e.g @Gilberto Pe-Curto ... and he's even only talking about an A3, VW Golf category...).

The next few months can't pass fast enough... :)

All the optimism is great, but I think people who have yet to experience Tesla need a bit of a dose of reality.

My car is only 3 years old. At the time I got it the interior fit and finish and features were below that of my Acura, Mercedes and prior BMW. Those cars were all older years than the Tesla and it wasn't the first year for Model S. Tesla has yet to add things like coat hooks, rear seat passengers can't control their own seat heaters, etc.

Tesla made a bunch of improvements since early 2014 and the seats are a lot better but we have yet to know or see the quality of the interior that Tesla will provide in the 3.

I love my S and have no regrets, but I am not setting my hopes high for an interior anything above my S, actually a bit lower as no dash. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised but I'd rather that than be disappointed.

Agree. Don't expect it to be above the current S. Recently test drove a 70D in Houston and found it totally adequate in this respect relative to my standards (e.g. 5-Series BMW). Yet closest certainly in acoustics, and competitive with the sound level current Beemer 3's.
                      Remaining reasonably optimistic... ;)

The new S's are a bunch better than mine in fit and finish. Being later in the build process gets you some improvements.

Luckily for me, I currently drive a Nissan. A Tesla should be absolutely luxurious by comparison.

OMG. See we've really recalibrated expectations down since Elon's tweetstorm!! :D

I feel the old idea or definition of a luxury interior is a bit dated. Im going to take the optimist position in hoping that they've learned from their mistakes on the MS and MX. If the latest interior style for the MX is any indication I'm hopeful. I don't expect it to be as fancy but it's not crazy to think it could take some design cues from that.

Naw, there's not really been anything in the tweatstorm that worried me. But knowing they were not able to get the adjustable seatbelt brackets on prior models was worrisome to me (even though I am not short, I really like the shoulder bracket as low as possible so the seat belt isn't sitting on my neck) and that was one of the most thrilling things I saw on the alphas. Little things, right? ;)

This will be an amazing car! I predict it will not please everyone ( I would like 330+ range , for example) but it will surprise us all. I can't wait!
