If by "upgrade", you mean buy a dual-motor car and trade in your single-motor car, sure!

ooo.. so I will need to trade the Model 3 back in to get a Dual-motor one? Hmmm Maybe I will just wait till the Dual-motor comes out which I heard is 6-8 months.

There has never been an after-market solution to add a motor. There is a lot more than the motor that needs to added to accommodate that.

Technically, ordering for the Model 3 has not yet been opened to the public. You can reserve now and then decide later, on the day you can place the order, whether to go single or dual motor. You still have plenty of time to make the choice.

Have you already made the reservation btw?

When did you reserve your Model 3?

If you're not a current Tesla owner or a day 1 reservation, it's a near certainty that dual motor will be available immediately when your order is fulfilled.

Additionally no one knows exactly how ordering will work.

For instance, you may see dual motor as an option and it may lead to a delayed delivery date.

Alternatively you may not see it at all. You wouldn't lose your spot in line, but you would not place your order.

Any Carolina (East Coast) orders on here? I wonder if I am the only one in my town who has reserved. I took my test drive of the S after I put my reservation for the 3 in. Now I only have to wait like 1 year and 8months for the thing. Guess that gives me plenty of time to save and think of what I want to upgrade. Is the AWD option really that important? It never really snows here and I have never really needed an AWD car. Other than some extra range and some quicker acceleration, I was wondering if the cost was worth it.

@sc-dual motors is critical for max range and traction control. Single motor is still a great car.
For me in Northern Vermont-D is a must have. P and L you just throw real money away just to think you're cool.
You get the best with D and largest battery pack. By best I mean bang for your buck. If the D is more than you want to pay
    -you'll have the consider that.
As for delivery time, by the time your order is time for configuration your wait between a d and single will be irrelevant.
In any of these cases-welcome to Tesla futuristic auto transportation.
