So I have heard that better than 75% of the reservations for Model 3 are from people new to Tesla. Since that is the case can one of you Tesla vets fill the rest of us in on the differences between the models? I know the performance differences but I was wondering what makes those differences possible. Maybe compare a 90D, P90D and P90DL. At least that will give us newbies an idea of what we will be getting for the money when the time comes to configure.

Thanks,

Dan

The stat from the earnings conference call put the new to Tesla model 3 reservations at 93% so just 7% are existing owners!

The number, 70, 85, 90, etc is the battery capacity. Determine range and also available motor power. Without a ' D ' it will have a single rear motor.

The ' D ' is for the dual motor (AWD). The computer will balance between the two motors constantly for both the best traction and optimum power performance for the driving conditions. The 'D ' models are able to get a little better range than the single motor models.

The ' P ' is for the performance motor (also AWD). Increases the rear motor's size, increases power, acceleration, things that will tempt drivers to never be able to get to the posted range distances because all will be spent at takeoffs. ;)

The ' L ' is for the Ludicrous Mode upgrade. Requires ' P ' . Ludicrous is a fuse upgrade and will give the performance motors a burst of extra power.

Is Tesla going to build a P90L and get into the Formula Drift game?

That isn't what they said, they said that 93% had never before contacted Tesla, ever, at all. If you got a test drive, you are in the 7%, or even put your email on their mailing list.

Thank you kindly.
