Tesla has added a new $2000.00 option for a full fixed glass roof for the Model S, in addition to the panoramic sunroof. However you won't be able to use a roof rack, and you will lose the satellite radio with the new glass roof option. Screen Shot 2016-11-06 at 1.25.59 AM.png

No. The only images that Tesla have released for the full fixed glass roof are the ones for their custom configurator.

I've tested a model S with the full glass roof and was immediately sold on it. It was awesome to be able look up at open sky with nothing breaking up the view as opposed to a model with a sunroof.

I don't like losing the roof rack though. I've never used one before, but I'd hate to lose that option. But I love opening the moon roofs so, I'm partial to that option. I can use the extra Vitamin D.

Hehe! I get confused if I should call them moonroof or sunroof. But I do try to get some light here and there.

Hmm interesting because the all glass roof will be an option for the Model 3 as well. Does that mean there can be no satellite radio because one chooses to a get an all-glass roof? I don't get why satellite radio is removed..

Anyways, I hate siriusxm. I like normal radio anyways lol.

I think it is due to the fact that they cannot mount a satellite antenna up high and run the wiring to it. Otherwise it would ruin the clean aesthetic. Anybody else know for sure?

I forgot about the siriusxm. Might not be needed it the car has built in internet radio. But I'd rather listen to podcasts.

I don't know about you guys, but i hate internet radio. It sounds like the treble is too high and you still get the same result when you put it down haha. Connecting my phone to the car using Bluetooth is the best bet. Apple Music beats all!

Then again... I'll be listening to oldies (Rolling Stones and Toto).

For me missing the satellite radio is a more important argument than missing a roofrack, because I will put a trailer hook on my Model 3.

Is it complete glass or is there a small barrier in between to hold up the glass? What is the glass made of? I'd assume there are some safety issues with that design no? I never questioned it until now because i just realized the model 3 will have an option for it as well.

@Jaspal - there are cross-beams where the glass is seamed (at the top of the windshield and before the back glass (or hatch in the case of the Model S) and just behind the b-piller on the Model S.

Speculation is the Model ☰ will be using the new 'Tesla Glass' being developed, but there hasn't been any official info on exactly what that may mean (thinner/lighter/stronger/translucent solar/electro tintable/etc?)

Thanks for the information! I wonder what correlation the All-glass roof has to the Satellite radio option being removed. Someone said it might have to do with the wiring or not being apple to put an antenna up high enough.

One problem for Model S owners is that if they go with all glass roof, they don't get the roof rack nor the towing ability. So that's something to consider.

    .
That would mean that there is no other viable option to carry extra cargo. I know that Model S's don't get offered the tow hitch option. Elon said long ago on twitter that the Model 3 will have the tow hitch as an option. So why not have it on the Model S as well?

It's a wonderous combination: panorama roof being neccessary for satellite radio antenna and towing hitch. I don't see the connection.
But hey, we are mainly interested in the Model 3. We just need to see what will be possible on that car. It's designed completely diffent.
    For myself:
    • I want a towing hitch (for a cart to haul stuff around, I live in the countryside)
    • I would like satellite radio (clear sound on my long work routes)
    • I prefer te openness of a glass roof (hardly use my current panorama roof)

So what you are saying is... You'd like all the options on the Model 3 and screw the other models haha.

I would guess it's just a weird carry-over from when the only options were a solid metal roof or the sunroof (then called pano glass) options - with the antenna designed to work in the pano glass roof structure. Next re-design I would expect they would at least add sat radio to the all glass option, but they probably don't have that part designed and/or available yet.
