There are so many things to think about when ordering this car in the U.S. $7,500+$3,000 in Maryland is a big deal, but if you delay the order for AWD or other options, you could be paying full price.

I originally wanted the larger battery, but I don't take many long trips regularly so I'm on the fence. It's a big number ($9K), but could also extend the value of the car. I would most likely order autopilot later.

For the purchaser, it would have been nice if they had a base model there, but from their standpoint, they can make more money on the initial models with options. What would this car look like without a console (assuming the console is only in the premium option)? What if any seat controls would there be if the base were manual?

My feeling on the big battery is two fold, every trip you take with the big battery is a shallower discharge/charge percentage which is good for longevity. And the larger battery cars are faster 0-60 by half a second.

The larger battery adds range, faster charging, and better performance so a lot of wins there. I'm sure it will be more valuable for resale purposes as well.

It also appears as though (and I may be wrong) that premium options may be tethered to larger range. For instance, I want the glass roof and nicer seats, they may not be possible on the smaller battery. It was a bit vague.

I could be wrong, but I think they are separate options in general, but for the early orders, they are being tied together, so that all they are CURRENTLY building are big battery and premium interior, so all you are left to choose (as Elon stated) is color and wheel options. I think from the delivery estimator, they will get decoupled in early 2018.

I see white interior option, but it doesn't seem to confirm that Premium will be available on base battery.

Mind you I expect it will be.

Just making the point that it's not explicitly stated.

I was originally dead set on waiting for the AWD option and wanted but wasn't set on the bigger battery. I've already decided I have to exclude EAP and FSD at time of ordering to reduce cost, but I hate the aero wheels and am set on midnight silver for paint so that adds $2500 right there. Premium pkg has a lot of things we want too so there's +$7500 total before long range or AWD.

I live in South Eastern PA and while we don't get Vermont-like winters we have it bad occasionally and RWD makes me nervous with that in mind. I had an 04 Subaru STi in the past and delighted in an AWD performance car in winter which handled the snow better than most pickup trucks! That said, if getting that makes me miss out on the $7500 federal tax credit (which we'd be eligible for all of with an earlier delivery) its a really tough decision.

I had been hoping the upgrade options would cost less than the S & X, but knowing they don't I can't justify long range + AWD + losing fed credit. If I waited for AWD I'd have to go with the smaller battery and would have to wait MUCH longer even with my ASAP pre-reveal online reservation.

While the delivery event raises many questions, it has definitely answered a few for me. At almost $60,000 for a maxed out initial production (big battery, premier interior, upgrade paint and wheels, EAP, FSD), that will be plenty for me. I am pretty sure I wouldn't be able to afford the dual motor and performance packages so that will do it for me. The numerous features on the premier package seals it for me. The only other feature that I would have liked to have is Bioweapon Defense Mode. I don't have to fuel my ego with Ludicrous and the dual motor isn't worth the added cost in my case so I pretty much know what I will be ordering when my time comes.

    Really excited!

SFM3, am in the same place. I expect the Premium to absolutely be available on the standard range car. There is no way that T≡SLA would pass on the opportunity to get nice incremental margin from the $5k additional cost...

I think premium will be available on the base because it is on the base model s/x and why wouldn't they want to charge us another

I tend to agree I think bio weapon wont be available initially on this car if not at all. For some of the bells and whistles, I think you will have to get an s for example. I also am doubtful that the Ludacris option on this car will cost less than 15k 10k for the ludacris and 5k for the awd.

Copied from one of numerous articles I've read:
Standard · Front center console with open storage and two USB ports
(Part of) Premium includes: · Center console with covered storage and docking for two smartphones

So, you get a console, just not a covered storage area or smartphone docking.

Come on Dan, I am 12% certain that just the fact that I plan to buy a Model 3 when I don't "need" a new car has some correlation to ego inflating. I just hope it comes with a sealer kit, in case my ego starts to deflate after the payment book arrives.

I noted on the Tesla website, they can get (at least some of) their vehicles financed over a 96 month period! EIGHT YEARS to pay for a car!

At my age my ego isn't the thing I am worried about deflating...just sayin'. ;) Does sealer work for that too? hmmm...

Yeah, 8 years to pay off is stretching it a bit. If the warrantee was 8 year bumper to bumper then maybe.

So far i'm looking at the Base Car in either White, Blue or the darker gray, with the Premium interior. I can't see the $9K upgrade for the longer range battery. Doing some basic calculations at our energy rates here the per mile cost is the same.
I need to see the wheels better to decide about that other $1500

I'll also be waiting on the white or other color interior. Don't do black as ext or int color. Didn't buy a 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid Titanium because the interior color choices were black or black.
