      Being its a maximum of 600 employees (which aren't all unionized) I'm sure they'll figure out something. Even paying the 400euro difference wouldn't hurt that much, especially if it keeps things moving smoothly with the Model3.

        Hopefully all the work is essentially done on the Model 3 line ... they are most likely working on future projects, like Alien Dreadnought.

        In all relationships, it's a balance of how the subgroups see themselves, see the others, and see who benefits and how.

        When you have a dawning paradigm shift, such as the rise of EV's over ICE's, old concepts and rules of thumb which formerly dominated in business shift away.

        The question is how all the contributors to success will fair from their endeavors.

        One of my great grandfathers was a blacksmith, but not that many folks travel via horse these days. Old habits are great, until they are not any more.

        Melding cultures is an art. Employees need to see that management sincerely and correctly believes that holding stock in the enterprise will work out equitably for all parties. While having a diversity of customers is like having enough legs on a stool, sometimes riding the right pogo stick takes you places which you wish to be faster. There's a fine line between being the Three Musketeers and being the Hatfield's and the McCoy's.

        Corporate leaders once presumed they were supplying the tools. Craftsmen felt their old trusted tools and their ability to earn a living with them were being taken away.

        The first date isn't everything, unless it determines that you don't have a second date. They don't pay off at the window because your horse looked good prancing into the starting gate. Call it industrial relations or human resources. Just don't call people late for dinner.

        Building a team is like building a factory. It needs to be handled appropriately, based upon an assortment of conditions.

        Strangers need to evaluate whether Elon is friend or foe, and how reliable the future they anticipated really is.

        Time for leadership skills to enter the fray. Or as Arthea used to sing, "All I'm asking is... for a little respect..."

          I'm suspicious of motives in this case. Why weren't the very same employees, earning the very same wages, unhappy under the old ownership? The argument that dropping the old clients somehow decreases job security is specious. Did the employees think that because Tesla is an American company that they should start behaving like Americans? Did the dropped clients have a hand in this?

            It's not unreasonable. Diversification lets you ride out downturns. If Tesla ends up having a bad quarter/year, they could face cutbacks/layoffs. If they have multiple clients, then it's likely that other companies could pick up the slack.

              Yes. The game's afoot. And as in wars where they use poisons and high explosives, the number of armies positioned in the field and their various motivations require serious considerations in battlefield strategies and tactics.

              Most groups are likely not monolithic in their intentions; however, the union IG Metall has represented German workers at General Motors among other manufacturers in Europe. GM has however just sold its former Opel operations to Peugeot. (Vive la France! Or rather, now what???) The union has to consider how things at companies wherein they operate (some perhaps getting clobbered soon in the marketplace) might affect business as usual. Unions, like employers, are typically not adverse to expanding their own ranks, and its their mission statement to support workers.

              Things are in uncharted waters. In the fog of war, defects in battle plans quickly arise, and plans go right out the window. The fire drills run differently when there are actual flames and damages involved. ("Oh, we can't go down the stairs in an orderly fashion. The stairway just collapsed.")

              As Jimmy used to sing on the Mickey Mouse Club, "Today is a day that is filled with excitement. Nobody knows what's going to happen."

              If you can remain calm while others about you panic, you obviously do not understand the gravity of the situation.

              Yes, General Kipling, if you say so. The next war is always a tad different than the last.

                  I had similar questions, that I feel were suitably answered by Falko in the comments section below this article from April 20, 2017:


                  He has an interesting perspective, as someone who grew up near the small town where the facility resides. I highly recommend reading his comments on the subject.

                  Each of those scenarios begin with 'if'. Since working with all the external clients reportedly gleaned Grohmann a whopping huge 5% margin, maybe that is why they had to pay their employees collectively $50,000,000 less annually than industry standard to survive. That would explain why ownership and CEO left the company after the acquisition by Tesla. But the union chose to spin it as if they were abandoning ship due to the newcomers at Tesla.

                  It seems that Elon Musk has moved to calm the workers there with a letter/memorandum that appears in the article I linked. Hopefully that will satisfy them somewhat.

                    Oh ye of little faith! Lighten up. While Murphy's Law indicates that anything that can happen will happen, the scheduler has also indicated to me that God once invented time because He didn't want everything to happen all at once. Therefore, everything bad at least does not happen all the time.

                        I have to agree, nothing is certain in the manufacturing field these years. I would hope that the disgruntled employee's take a look at the bigger picture LONG TERM. 400 000 M3 orders, give or take what you will from that number. I equate that to job security. My belief is with the multiple paths Elon is headed towards (autos, solar, battery storage, space X etc. etc. etc.) There should be enough (reasonable in this manufacturing climate) Job security. I also like the stock options as a perk, gives the employee's a little more incentive to be proactive about how the company expands and prospers.

                          Yeah. I will rarely confront trolls directly. I often will ask them a question or two, in order to gauge their attitude. Their response will typically confirm whether or not they are indeed a troll. Then I treat them accordingly. :)

                          I think I shall employ the BEA principle.

                          BELIEF __ EDUCATION __ ASSURANCE

                          Perfect to combat FUD.

                          FEAR __ UNCERTAINTY __ DOUBT

                          Belief, backed by facts, to combat doubt.

                          Education by providing factual information to ease fear.

                          Assurance of factual sources to alleviate uncertainty.

                          BEA is better than FUD and day of the week.
