Within a DIY brake repair thread within TMC, I came across a reference to an actual shop manual source of information, from service.tesla.com

I paid and got access to a bunch of Model S and X service manuals which I downloaded. Even though it mentions Model 3 I couldn't access them

OK, to confirm, one can download the manuals onto their own hard drive?

If yes, why the option for more than a $30 one hour fee?

If no, then is it like http://www.alldata.com/ except about a thousand times more expensive ;)?

Some manuals are PDF the others are embedded HTML which you might have to print to PDF or save to your hard drive.

If you're looking for something specific I might have it archived. $30 gives you an hour to download whatever you want. I was able to grab quite a bit of interesting stuff

This is all awesome to know, thanks.

Once my Model 3 is ordered, I'll spend the $US 30 and, at the very least, download all the recommended maintenance items. Cheers.

Gotta love the internet. This really helps confirm that I may look at some DIY maintenance.

I was able to obtain a copy of the PDF files for the Service Manual for my Leaf. It's been incredibly useful for doing work on the car. Great instructions for taking every part of the car apart.

If the same sort of information exists for the 3, I'll probably go the DIY route again with that car. I do worry that it'll be harder to find parts for a Tesla than for a Nissan.

We are on the cutting edge so to speak. Things will loosen up over the next 36 months.

I came across this video describing the DIY procedure to R&R the "drive unit fluid" in a Tesla S P85.

I expect the procedure for Model 3 to be similar.

As expected, the hardest part is dealing with those "push-pins" when removing and re-assembling the under-chassis plastic trim pieces.

    From the video explanation notes:

Doing the first drive unit fluid service on a 2013 Tesla Model S P85. This is a quick guide to help do it on your own, as it is not at all difficult. A fluid evacuator pump is absolutely the best tool for this job (https://www.amazon.com/Mityvac-7201-F...). The only required fluids are DexronVI Automatic Transmission Fluid. 1.5 qts (1.4L) for the large units, and 2.4 qts (2.3L) for the small units. This is for 2012 to 2016 Model S cars, RWD or AWD, as we are only servicing the rear unit in this video.

Another DIY video, servicing the (Brembo) brake calipers on a Tesla Model S.

    From the comments section:

They have the Tesla logo on the front, but they are Brembo calipers, pads, and rotors. They are standard on all cars up to 2016.5, when they only offered 4 wheel Brembos on performance cars, and front wheel Brembo on all others.

DIY video, preliminary look and parts order for front control arms, front end, Model S.

Note what's in store if the rear control arms ever need replacement. YMMV

Another DIY video (Model S) frunk interior trim removal.

I suspect Model 3 will be typical.

When the time comes for me to spray rust proofing in the Model 3 steel fenders, removal of the frunk trim will be part of the scenario.

This is a 30 minute video showing the procedure to remove the battery pack from a 2017 Chevy Bolt.

I place it here for informational and educational purposes as I suspect the details of the Model 3 pack removal will be, for the large part, essentially the same.

    Enjoy:
