    Hello

I have been looking at all the text model 3, speciality the one at the charger station.

I do believe there are no power folding mirrors.

What do you think, go back and look at the photos of the cars parked and charging.

Pretty sure they fold judging by the split in the lower half. The question then becomes are they manual or powered.

I'm 99.9% sure we have seen a picture with mirrors folding in.

    @MelindaV can you help?

I guess I wasn't clear, I meant to say that there are no power folding mirrors on the current models,
Because during charging they would be folded in if they were power folding mirrors.
This is just based on the photos I have seen.

Yes that's correct. It looks very unlikely that we'll see power folding mirrors.

We have a seen a picture with the mirrors folded in. The question is indeed whether or not they are automatic or manual. Trevor thinks that they will be automatic, but I think that it could go either way.

But I think the better question is whether or not they can be removed when we enter a fully self-driving future. That would give us less drag and more sexiness.

The only picture I recall with folded mirrors was the one @TrevP posted of the silver alpha being unloaded for the factory tour. I don't recall seeing the mirrors folded on any of the RCs.

I was mere feet from a release candidate and theres lots of pictures of them, they all have folding mirrors. I'm sure they are powered too

Zoom in on this picture and you'll see the part line on the mirror

The auto-folding feature on the S and X is controllable from the gui. So, just because you don't see them folded in any of the pictures of the 3 does not mean they aren't power (or even automatic) folding mirrors. Might not be automatic, but could very easily still be powered.

Good observation. My wife''s Mercedes glk mirrors fold in when locking the doors, unfolding with first open door. So I am going to assume they are manual on the 3

I think that since the M3 will have Enhanced Auto Pilot it should also have the "summon" feature. When summoning the car into or out of a garage the car needs to fold in the mirrors to avoid lopping them off, therefore Tesla will likely include power folding mirrors as standard equipment. I hope :)

I agree that this feature will be needed as you have stated due to the EAP features. It could just be that TESLA hasn't fully implemented the final software release to the RC vehicles we have been drooling over for past couple months, and once this final software is released then the features such as the mirrors folding in while charging will be incorporated. Just my guess.

I'd be really suprised if they're not there. Its pretty standard in the target price range.

Wonder if Tesla is lobbying for the removal of the requirement for a side mirror all together. (The teaser photo of the Semi lacked them).

The VW XL1 uses cameras, with small screens in the door. (Link Here).

The funning headlights on my leaf, as I discovered (Link), direct airflow around the side mirrors. I suspect the front fender ridges behind the headlights on the TM3 server a similar function. I wonder how much those side mirrors contribute to the drag coefficient.

There's a video of a white M3 talking about charging. It is in a garage. He hits a lock feature on the app and there is heard some mechanical noise and he moves the camera to his mirrors and comments that they folded. Now as to whether that's premium or not I do not know. But power folding mirrors I almost sure. The author calls the "thingamajiggy's" the rear view mirrors but clearly he is referring to the sideviews.

Yes the side mirrors power fold and it's part of the premium upgrades package. It happens when you lock the car which is what he's describing (well to clarify it's a feature you can turn on/off).

What we need is a capture of the next screen after you tap fold mirrors.

I know there is a toggle on it for memory to enable / disable the feature.

I just don't remember is here is a separate button to immediately fold in the mirrors.
