Shocking, but I do not care for much modern technology. Smartphone is good for texts and occasional pictures. Otherwise it's a PITA with unending upgrades and "apps" I never use. Same with PC, which I only use for email, news and Facebook. Car "infotainment"? Happy with a CD, thank you very much, and even use--gasp--paper maps. That said, I do appreciate EVs and even have a home charger from my Honda Fit (80 mile range is not enough). I really love Tesla design, innovation, and US manufacturing but want it as a car, not as the latest i-whatever. Am I barking up the wrong tree with a Model 3? Interior.jpg

My gut feeling says this is not the car for you.

    It’s very “tech heavy”.

However they’re (Tesla in general as I haven’t driven a Model 3) a blast to drive, so perhaps that can sway you...

The model 3 specifically is probably the wrong car for you, just judging by your stated preferences! You're interacting with the car almost 100% thru the touchscreen!

If you want an e-car, and want a more traditional experience, check out the Chevy Bolt or the Nissan Leaf (2018). They're mostly traditional and happen to be e-cars.

Just drive it. You don't -have- to use the navigation. You don't -have- to use the infotainment system. Get in, push the accelerator pedal, and steer the thing.

BTW... this is coming from a guy who is a classic car nut. The Model 3 will be my first new car ever.

Yes, driving is the key, and the Model 3 promises to be wonderful. That's the point of it. Technological gadgets not so much, although I can deal with them if necessary (up to a point). I simply prefer not to.

Certainly no one is forcing you to make a decision before a test drive, but we don’t know when test drives will be available.

I think the driving fun factor will outweigh the tech heavy aspect and you may fall in love.

Probably the best bet may be to wait for that test drive.

I would suggest taking a Model S or X for a test drive if you haven't done so already. A 75D X should have acceleration similar to a Long Range Model 3. It will give you some idea of what the driving experience will be like.
