Some thoughts regarding a supercharger location wish list (I'm in eastern Ontario, so my wish list is slanted to that area)
Short term parking at Pearson Airport.
Along the whole Trans Canada highway, to allow a drive from central Ontario to Winnipeg (and beyond) via north shore of Lake Superior.
    All 400 series highways.
    Thoughts?
    Cheers

There are a number of them already in Ontario:

    Cornwall
    Kingston
    Toronto (Lawrence ave)
    Woodstock
    Comber
    Barrie

There are going to be a few more soon
    Oakville
    Grimsby
    12-stall in Montreal

Don't forget the Tesla destination chargers but most importantly, it's not just Superchargers, you can charge anywhere there is public charging with a J1772 connector or even CHAdeMO for fast DC with the adapter.

Cross-Canada would be great for sure. I'd like to see the New Brunswick/Nova Scotia corridor filled in as well as through Sudbury and around into the mid and west coast. Tesla has some work cut out for them but you can get the west coast if you dip into the US.

Trev, there is also one in Port Hope:

My folks are in the Burlington area. Any idea where in Oakville the unit will be placed?

    Understood.

My situation: even though this is going to be my purchase, I'll get a whole lot less "I told you so" from the C.E.O. if I can drive from home to Pearson and back without having to stop enroute for a top-up. Total trip distance is 267 km's. At highway speeds (I always do 100 kph in the right lane), cold weather and the heater on, I may not be able to complete the trip. Having superchargers at Pearson (short term parking garage where rates are $5 per 30 minutes) allows me to park the car for the 30 minutes while I go meet my wife at the arrivals.....when we get back to the car, the battery is juiced enough that it's a no-brainer back home.

Of course, my first "critical path" option for my future Model 3 is the biggest battery available...so my once every 60 day commute may not require a mid point stop to top-off.

Agreed. However, I'd really like the choice of staying in Canada to do the coast to coast thing......dreaming anyway ;)

    Thanks. Cheers.

The Ontario government recently announced 20 million dollars to partner with private companies and municipalities to build 200 level 3 and 300 level 2 chargers. I recal about 25 being at Pearson. There is a contract for 175 with no location attached. My speculation is that there will be several charging locations at each of the 20 on route stops along the 400 series highways. This would cover much of the province.

Sorry nothing specific on the list about North Bay or Sudbury for the provincial funding of charging stations. The really interesting one is the 11.3 million to Koben Systems in Mississauga to build 193 level 2 and 144 level 3 chargers, 337 of the 500 chargers to be built. There is nothing on their site about the proposed distribution of these. It would only make sense that such a large investment in one company would have to place chargers at reasonable intervals along the 400 series highways and in most major cities. I have sent them an e-mail to see if they are willing to release any information at this point. I will let you know if I find out anything.

Thanks for seeking out the info. It may prod a firm to listen to potential users about placement of these units.

Further to my last, thanks for that link. Guelph is on the list for level 3 charges, will make my visits to that area easier to plan. Cheers.

Hi I waited a few days and didn't get a response so I called Koben this morning. They said that the location announcement will likely be made soon but will come through the Ministry so we should watch the Ontario government site for news. Their chargers will be spread throughout the province as far north as Sudbury, so one is coming near you Curtish892. This contract won't cover the On Route stations, but there will be level 3 chargers at reasonable intervals along the 400 series highways at locations where it is convenient to stop. Hopefully more to come soon.

Did they ever mention the plug type for the level 3 chargers? CHAdeMO or Combo CCS? I'm thinking it might be wise to pickup a CHAdeMO adapter for the 3 when the time comes.

I obtained the following information today from a spokesperson for the ONroute service centres. There is electrical conduit in place to provide for charging, but no firm plan to do so yet. Hopefully the market that we will represent in the next 2 years will be sufficient incentive to move forward with installations.

“Ontario’s redeveloped service centres, branded as ONroute, are designed to support charging station equipment in the future. Conduit has been installed in the ground of the redeveloped centres to support electric vehicle charging stations. Currently there are no charging stations available at ONroute Service Centres.”
The following excerpt has also been used in Minister’s correspondence over the last year:
“The Ministry recognizes the importance of developing and implementing public alternative vehicle fuelling technologies such as EV charging. This is why EV charging stations were considered as part of the design for 20 of 23 Ontario Highway Service Centres that were redeveloped. During construction, conduit was installed in the ground at the redeveloped sites to support charging station equipment in the future.
The Ministry and the service provider at the ONroute service centres continue to monitor the market and review options for installation of charging stations. A timeline for installation is not available.”

The Globe and Mail is reporting on new superchargers to be built this summer in Ontario and Quebec.Still no word on chargers in the GTA and I have had no response about a time line for building chargers at ONroute stations. On a positive note the Grimsby supercharger opened this week and the network will expand this summer to include:
          • Huntsville and Parry Sound, Ont.,
          • Montreal, Magog, and Rivière-du-Loup, Que.

Spectacular news! The province has now updated the plan for the first $20 million that they plan to spend on Level II and III charging stations. All are to be active by March 31, 2017. I have attached links to the press release and the interactive map and address list for the chargers. They are very widely distributed along the 400 series of highways, including enough in Northern Ontario that you might be able to make it to the Manitoba border. Speaking personally there are two on the way to my cottage so that range worry has been eliminated. The other 80 million mentioned in the climate change plan does not appear to have been allocated yet. I have not gone through the list in any depth but the Toronto Star article indicates that many are at Time Hortons, McDonalds, Ikea and there are at least 20 in the parking garages at Pearson Airport.
