Does anybody here know if Tesla opening a dealership in the Republic of Ireland will mean that the model 3 will be not be deemed an import and subjected to the 14% Vehicle Registration Tax (Import tax)?

Been scouring the internet and the Irish revenue's motor tax pages, and cannot come up with anything.

All cars in Ireland are subject to VRT. But at least with an EV you a 5K reduction in VRT plus a 5K grant.
I see the new Tesla store will be in Sandyford Industrial estate.

Base stated price is 35,000 USD - If we assume the same in euro

    - VRT is 14% : 4,900
    - VAT is 23% : 8,050

    Total Base : 48,400

    VRT Relief: 5000
    SEAI Grant : 5000

    Total : 38,400

You'll pay VRT + VAT on your options. I'm personally leaving out the software options for now and taking car of the hardware first.

No VRT then on an upgrade afterwards and I would suspect that the price to upgrade after the fact will decrease later on (they would need to decrease for me to personally justify it)

@teslamcteslaface , trust the VRT is an Irish registration fee...? Pretty steep!
Of course doesn’t matter if you get as much as relief presumably for EVs... ;)

it was a fudge to replace excise revenue when we joined the EU. There have been some attempts to get rid of it under EU law but its a double-tax here to stay - my figures above are wrong, the 14% is calculated after vat has been applied - so it is about 6k , after the grant , 1k VRT on the base model and ticking upward with each option.

    Day 1 EAP:
EAP@5k (6150 with vat, 7011 with VRT applied)
    EAP after Year 1:
    EAP@6,000 ( + 1380 vat = 7380)

So personally , I'm leaving the software options for a bit, taking a gamble on a future discount/ reduction after a few years.

    Day 1 EAP:
EAP@5k (6150 with vat, 7011 with VRT applied)
    EAP after 6 months: (6,000 + 1380 vat = 7380)

    Seemed like it.

Will probably do the same thing, for sure on FSD, most likely also EAP unless I am comfortable enough with my company income by then... Key for me on the big ticket items are LRB and, IMHO, PUP.

To your calculation above, where you counted conservatively 1$ = 1€, you do know us >1.2$/€ now for instance, right...? Moreover, the other big unknown for us Europeans remains imports rights into the EU and how T≡SLA plans to work around that by the time Model 3 hits our shores... Hopefully some kind of local assembly like they do for S (and X?) in Tilburg (Netherlands)... Gosh, I hope they’re in talks with Magna!!

To be honest , i'm trying to be as conservative as possible, It would break my heart if I saved based on the good exchange rate and was short of the cash to buy it... :(
