As part of its ‘Electric Road Trip’ tour for the summer, Tesla stopped by Biarritz in France to promote Model S and Model X. During a test drive in a Model S 90D, the vehicle suddenly sent a visual alert on dashboard stating that there was a problem with “charging”. The Tesla employee giving the test drive made the driver park the car on the side of the road and all three (the driver, the Tesla employee and another passenger) exited the vehicle.

The Tesla Model S caught on fire only a moment later, according to witnesses. more…

    I'm glad there are warnings…

It's never fun to hear about a future purchase being a potential death trap.

The media is going to have another field day with this report... Meanwhile an average 1250 ICE cars in the US have caught fire over the weekend and you'll never hear about those.

It is going to be a long road ahead:mad:. Anything thing that happens in the Tesla world will be reported on and scrutinized by the media.

It is never an easy path to success.

Ironically, this might make me want to buy a Model S over a Model 3, on the theory that Tesla will have the bugs worked out of the Model S, whereas, arguably, they'll be starting with a semi-clean slate on the Model 3.

So that's ... 5 was it? 6? ... total fire-related incidents with Model Ses? As I recall, there were 2 or 3 related to home charger problems, 1 or 2 related to debris on the road, the super-charging incident in Sweden they mentioned, and this one.

Still pretty low-probability compared to >100K Model Ses and Xes shipped, but I hope Tesla can get a hold of the wreckage and conduct an investigation.
