Last week, we reported on pictures of the aftermath of what must have been a spectacular accident involving a Tesla Model S and a truck on the A2 highway in the Netherlands between Eindhoven and Den Bosch. The Model S was hit by a truck and was seen rolling over at least one time before resting in the middle of the roadway.

Little was known at the time about the driver or any other occupants, other than that the driver was taken to the hospital. We now learn that the Tesla driver was traveling with his 8-year-old son and they both survived the crash with only minor bruises and cuts. The Model S owner took to the forums to explain the moments leading to the accident and to praise the vehicle’s safety features. more…

First, it's amazing that they escaped with only very minor injuries and that the overall structure and interior of the vehicle were intact.

Also, I wonder how much press this will get as compared to the bogus faulty suspension 'problem' or the tragic Autopilot death? Most of the Tesla news that gets lots of media coverage seems to be negative and not more positive like this one. As we see with these last two major crashes (Autopilot and this one), they were caused by poor human driving and not by the Tesla Model S. Autopilot will never be perfect, just like any human, so crashes will always happen, but as we can see Teslas are typically much, much safer than the average ICE vehicle. However, as evidenced by the number Model 3 reservations, most people understand that Tesla manufactures basically the safest vehicles on the road, whether it be through advanced mechanical or software engineering.

for anyone who hasn't followed the link to Electrek, then to the TeslaClubSweden post the driver made (english just before the photos), it is worth it! fantastic account of his wreck, along with a little humor about the sunroof possibly not being repairable, wipers needing to be replaced and Apple needing to look into improving the safety of their products (after a minor injury his son received from the iPad he was playing with).
