    Can anyone shed light on the Tesla delivery process in Texas?
    There is some rumblings of progress on allowing sales here, but I don't see it really happening with how corrupt all these politicians are, so how does it work?
    I heard something about the cars being registered in CA first....

    And how would the Sales Tax work?

    @TrevP,

    Agreed.... No sales allowed in my state either. Have to go to neighboring Ohio for Sales AND Service (SC).
    Hopefully Tesla is working on that as well as the other states that are 'holdouts'. I believe Tesla is and has made some headway in this area in some states. Hopefully they keep the ball 'rolling' before Model 3 rollout. Though I can imagine Elon's plate is quite full right about now!
    I'm sure his legal division is on it.

    Thanks Trevor. So it doesn't sound like a pain and Tesla I am sure will tell me what to do.

    Just saw this morning that NC ruled that Tesla cannot open another dealership in the state (Charlotte), even though they have one already in Raleigh. Amazing how the dealers could testify against Tesla, but no Public Comment we allowed. Crooked!

    So if SB680 does not pass, couldn't buyers from states without sales tax take delivery in Oregon instead? They have a store and delivery center and no tax. Not conveniently located for most, but if it otherwise means paying the state of California 4K in taxes, if I was in a state that didn't charge tax, or charged on top of what CA would collect, I'd consider coming up to OR.

    That is exactly what others have done. A guy from Hawaii last year took delivery of his second Model S (a 70D) and proceeded to drive the remaining 49 states with his dog last year. I believe he's back in Hawaii now and I think the 70D is still in the mainland.

    "United States" my ass :) It's the wild west out there with state-by-state laws. I hate to say it but this should be at the Federal level and Tesla would be better off trying to get the feds to intervene here.

    Now, I'm Canadian so I really don't have any place telling my US compatriots what to do given their propensity for hating the Federal Government but the US is the *only* place on the planet that has these crazy dealership protectionism laws. Tesla is free to sell direct to customers everywhere in the world they conduct business in, EXCEPT the US. I have "freedom" here, why can't American Citizens have "freedom" to buy from whom they chose when it comes to a car?

    I'll tell you: corporate ownership of government at all levels.

    At least we're not operating under the Articles of Confederation. The Federal government had way less power for those eight years.

    The dealership model really is unamerican and yet this is the way it's been since the wheel turned. I guess we just accepted a lousy set-up. If Tesla wins the Michigan case all hell is going to break loose in every state. Dealerships are seperate from the auto-makers and can be looking at the end of their crooked business model.
