How A Boring Finance Call Shows That The Big Three Will Never Understand Tesla

A great article from Jalopnik last week. Some great quotes too.

And then there’s Sergio Marchionne, delusional head of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, who claimed that he could build a Tesla Model 3 competitor and get it on the market within 12 months, if he felt like it. This makes a lot of sense, much in the same way that I can hit a home run at Comerica Park, I just don’t want to embarrass the professionals on the Detroit Tigers.

I don't think that it's so much that they don't understand Tesla, it's that they can't transition to pure EVs without killing profits on their current cars which is their bread and butter. The industry is in a complete upheaval and not many can adapt so they just keep making compliance cars until they can figure out some way to compete. I fear however that Tesla will be so far ahead of anyone else, especially with future cars like a Gen 4 that by the time those come out it will be too late for the others to catch up. We could very well see another wave of bankruptcies and re-orgs while they try and adapt.

The car industry, especially with Model 3, in experiencing the "iPhone moment".

It's a blast to drive with the usual 80-100 mile range without a DCFC or supercharger network.

Great little car but abandoned by its owner.

It's the closest drive to a Tesla Roadster that I've driven.

    Seriously? he said that?

I don't think they really realize how far behind they are...The power of software and over the air updates, waking up one day and your car has completely new features without having to buy a brand new car...
Until other companies do that, there will not be any Tesla competitor. There might be newer electric car from the Big 3 but I don't see how they'll keep up with the innovation made by Tesla...
It's not just the big 3 that are screwed you have the Big 3 German companies as well even the Japanese market has been shaken by the Tesla revolution...It's pretty much the whole industry...

I came out with a ruff idea on how you could make an electric car that generate electricity as it drives and I would say they are probably working on that while the rest of the industry play catch up... and with the Snake charger and autonomous driving getting close psss....Model 3 competitor in 12 months...please...

I like to come up with these question while I'm actually making the device because often the lead to other way of fixing them that you didn't initially planned...
I didn't finish all but most of what I read doesn't really apply to what I had in mind... I'm not entirely sure it would work since I haven't tried it yet... But to me it's so simple that someone had to think of that before I started looking into it and either came to the conclusion that it doesn't work or are still in the process of getting it to work...
Thanks for sharing I'll spend more time reading it later...

Volkswagen has an opportunity. They should ask for mercy on their fines, and in exchange promise to only market electric (or other renewable) cars in the US. I doubt they will see it.

    Thank you kindly.
