So any ideas if/when the attached image of the Turbine wheels will be available? These were by far my favorite and one of my favorite aspects from when the Beta's where revealed.

    My guess: never.

Reminder: The red prototype wasn't a real car. It was just a metal and wood frame with body panels hung on it. The wheels on that car didn't have to hold up a lot of weight. It appears they went with center-lock wheels in that case.

I'm not sure if this wheel translates very well if the center portion has to be large enough to hide a 5-lug pattern.

I agree with @garsh typically the most "out there" stuff from a prototype gets dropped for practicality and day-to-day functionality.

welp, looks like the 2 things i was looking forward to the most, the gorgeous reveal centerlock wheels (i would have paid even 3k more for those) and the cool metallic silver, red and matte blacks paints aren't making it to production. the candy apple red they used on the reveal models is amazing looking. too bad, none of them are making it to the first offerings. perhaps the performance models will offer it. though i would be surprised if tesla changed the wheels assembly to accommodate a centerlock for some model 3s and not others, and offer the more exotic paints for the 3, when they don't for even their S's and X's. wonder if elon will followup on the centerlock rims when he stated they would make it to production...

Elon was specifically asked about the wheels now called 'Sport Wheels' making it into production, not the centerlock wheels that were on the red alpha.

Would you be willing to pay $10K to $15K each for those center lock rims and those custom colors? If so, anything can be done aftermarket given enough time and money.

that's true, the ones on the candy apple were clearly centerlocks, the sports wheels appeared to also be centers with the cap. so some articles assumed when he said "those wheels" were making it to production he meant the centerlocks. well, too bad, they would have been the best looking factory rims for any car under 100K

I could see those rims appearing when the performance model comes out. But that's just a guess/hope.

They were granted a patent on them so you never know, they could have plans for them
