    Aight.............

So I'm a guy who needs his lumbar support. I really hope the Model 3 has ample lumbar support for maximum comfort, especially on long trips.

Did anyone who sat in the reveal event cars comment on this? Can anyone tell from the blurry shots of the production candidates that we have been seeing?

Most likely there will be 2 levels of seating comfort and 2 materials.
    Most direct competitor (3-series) has:
Basic manual heated textile seats (except M3).
Optional electric actuation for 1100€ (adds memory for driver)
Optional seat "sport" functionality for 560€ (can change length)
Optional 4-way pneumatical lumbar for 300€.
Optional leather/textile seats for 600€ or full fake leather for 400€
or real leather for 1800€ or special individual extended real leather for 3000€
or individual full real leather interior for 3400€.

I think Tesla will go "basic" and "premium" plus "textile" and "leatherette".
It's unlikely basic seats will have any of those optional things.
It's also unlikely one can choose only lumbar or only electric seats.
Too many options makes things complicated for Tesla, at least til they make
half a million per year. Until that time, wiring harness variations must be minimized.
Therefore electric functions (except maybe heated front seats) will be only on premium
    interior vehicles.

My current car has terrible lumbar support. I do wonder why ALL cars don't have good support. It can't cost much more
(any, really) to have a properly shaped seat than an improper one.

    Thank you kindly.

I know we're all just speculating here, but I can't imagine a car with a projected average selling price in the $40s (USD) having the upgrade be leatherette and not leather.

Well, making a seating place suitable for at least 99% of population aged 18-100 needs ample amount of
    adjustments.
BMW is very close to one-for-everybody seat. Though I would say only 95-97% are very happy (personal experience with clients)

This is maximum comfort seat (massage ventilation heating excluded)
My 2001 5-series seat does not have backrest width adjustment, all else same. Therefore 15 years pretty much the same.
And this seat weight A LOT. I had hard time lifting it alone. So 30-50kg each. That's a problem.

The most expensive Tesla with the best seats available - not leather. Can you imagine that:p

Really hoping to have wicked seats above almost everything else. I find long distance travel in my Hyundai pretty uncomfortable. Around town it feels fine but after 20 minutes or so the ache sets in. One of the reasons I'm hoping it has air suspension too as being so tall and getting down into a car is very annoying.

Alphas cars had fully adjustable electric seats including lumbar adjustment even on the passenger side. Have a look at this screen shot of the reveal event test rides for the controls highlighted in red. Since the release candidates so far have proven to be pretty much identical to the alphas I expect the seats to be production ready as well.

My wife has a painful back issue that requires her leg seating position to be about 90 degrees. Any indications regarding the Model 3's passenger seat height and adjustability?

M3 should be on par with BMW 3-series, which has height adjustment on both seats as standard (manual seats).
Model 3 should have height adjustment for both seats (it would be another part for LH countries if not) as standard as well.
Not sure about bottom angle adjustment. I would think that would only be available on power seats though, incl lumbar.

I am also in this category. I really don't know if I can get a Model 3 until my wife sits in one. This problem has eliminated several car picks over the years.

For example, she loves our 2nd generation Prius, but when we got a G3 Prius loaner she sat down for about a minutes and just stayed home until we got our car back.

We don't need a test drive, I'm sure that it will drive fine, just a test sit.

If she has to be that picky about the seat (and by "picky", I do NOT mean any disrespect, just that her condition is easily exasperated by the wrong kind of seat), then you should seriously consider changing the seat in the vehicle instead of limiting your selection of vehicles. It's not overly difficult to install random seats into random vehicles.

Here's a video about installing a racing seat into a car. I like ChrisFix, he puts out some good, practical stuff.

The people on Roadkill are always putting random seats into their beaters.

If there actually is a problem with the spine, maybe one should use additional orthopaedic aids.
Not everything is for wearing. Some is for seating. Some computer keyboard wrist help etc.

Appropriate special pillows and stuff is available for extreme lumbar support. and special buttpillows.

@arnis I wish it were that easy. The key is to have the proper fit to the contours of your body. If not, it could be very uncomfortable. That's why now we have a bunch of gently used pillows collecting dust because they weren't giving my wife the proper support.

Hoping the Model 3 front seats allow for that proper fit. I'm not really looking forward to replacing them aftermarket. :)

One thing about Tesla, they've been steadily improving their seat comfort. They're on the 4th version of seat design on the Model S so hopefully the seats in the Model 3 are just as good. Notice I mean comfort, not materials.

I fully expect the base seats to be the usual Tesla "textile" which are not cloth but similar to leather. They're very nice and wouldn't complain to have those. I just hope we get something other than just black to chose from.

here's a photo of the textile seats - they have fake leather at the sides and a dense synthetic (poly or nylon) woven fabric in the centers. Looked at a sample of these at the Tesla showroom and to me they felt very synthetic and would not be my choice.

Thanks, I have indeed been considering an approach similar to that. Thanks for the video as a starting resource. Still, hoping that the standard seats work out.

@MelindaV , I am not disagreeing 'cause this so much something of a personal choice...

However, to complement your input, I think the samples don't do the base seats justice and agree how you feel about them.
Have indicated before that I sat in a Model S with standard seats in the Woodlands, TX store and found them be much more tolerable than I thought they would be...

While, like Trev, I'd like another color than black with my Midnight Silver choice, I don't know if they would render as well in a then presumably lighter color?

I would not mind a textile seat if the fabric was something more like a wool blend or something not so shiny.

And we don't know what the non leather option will be for the Model 3, so all speculation based on the existing models choices...
