If you click on the tweet, I'd read the whole thread. It gives more a better idea of when the design studio will be open for us commoners. aka most likely delayed :disappointed:

So according to his tweet, in 6-8 weeks from today, non-owners should expect a design studio invite. I’m ok with that.

Given a first production range of November - January and the first invites going out in 6-8 weeks (those would be for those in the October - December range), I would surmise that if my car makes my range its a near certainty for January and not 2017 :(

Screenshot is there, but for the future you can just copy the link to the tweet and post it and the forum automatically handles it!

    It's non-employees, not non-owners for the 6-8 weeks estimation

You’re correct. So may be longer for non-owners.

It seems even Elon himself doesn't really know the timeline due to all of the complexities involved with producing the 3. It could be sooner or later, time will tell :)

Right ... non-employee, owners have the October - December range.

If they are invited to configure in:
    6 weeks > November 17
    8 weeks > December 1

It's probably hard to get everyone their car in the final month of that range unless a lot are holding out for AWD, Performance, or Standard.

From there next up have the November - January range and I suspect that's a much larger group. If those invites first go out in mid-to-late December than making good on January will be very tough.

So does this mean Current Owners who want a First Production Model 3 could get an email within the next few days allowing them to order since this isn't a "configurator" and all other owners who want other options will have to wait the 6-8 weeks?

If they're making the same cars like they are for employees then you literally have only colour and wheel choice. That can be done over the phone or email.

    From the article:

Huh? Who, when presented with a picture of a S curve showing 30/100/300/1500 vehicles produced (for a vehicle intended for 500k per year) thought, "Yeah, that sounds like a fully automated production line working entirely without any human involvement"? No freaking duh they're having to rely on a lot on human labour at this stage.

Did the Wall Street Journal actually think that customers and investors thought that Tesla had a fully built, fully operational, minimal-labour-per-vehicle line running, but was only producing a handful of vehicles per month on it for giggles?

Elon's tweet does seem to suggest this may be the case, but it doesn't really make sense. The configurator shouldn't be hard to launch and it essentially starts with do you want first production? No, then we'll get back to you later. Yes, ... pick your color, pick your rims, select EAP, FSD, and move on.

Of course so simple the configurator truly isn't necessary, but it still doesn't seem the issue would be the configurator being ready in time.
